Sup guys I didnt think this was worth its own topic but I was wondering if any of you artists know any mathematical facets to art. I have to do a research paper for my IB Math SL class this year I would like my topic to be on art because art interests me, but I'm not sure of too many ways that mathematics is used in art.

Some of my loose ideas are how perspective works on a flat image, colors (which probably doesn't have anything to do with math), or composition (same as colors).

If any of you guys know anything about this kind of stuff I would be delighted to hear it!

could you write about interpolation in pixel art? like if youre applying AA to something, i think you could actually use math to get that right, the sub-pixel spread of colour

First thing that comes to mind is the Golden Ratio / Two-thirds rule / Fibonacci Sequence which is useful in image composition and is sort of mathy...

Or if you wanted to delve into digital art there's a bit of math behind different color blending modes you could explore.

Linear Algebra is an amazing collection of math for art.
Do some research.
It'll blow your mind!

Generative/algorithmic art is really interesting.Those spirograph effects, roulette curves, you used to see all the time on old computers were one of those 'woah! computer magic' moments for me.

I'm trying to put the crippling self-doubt and lack of confidence that are slowly setting in aside, but today I handed my resignation!
Not that I disliked the job (I'm a Level Designer), but I really hate Paris (life has became so stressful I'm having health issues because of that), so I'm leaving.

So, in the beginning of march, I'll be a fulltime freelance pixel artist. Y-yay!

Good luck Ellian, I also left my day job and have been doing freelance again recently. It's a different can of worms, but it has a lot more potential and you can meet it on your own terms.
