I think C+C would be more useful once you clean this up and formalize the pixel clusters more.  In addition, in this stage this isn't quite "pixel art" per se, it falls more into the category of oekaki.  I suggest you work on defining the forms more and then present a more critiquable picture.  In addition, might I ask, why so large of a canvas?  Does it need to be this size?  If so, why specifically are you going with pixel art as a medium?

Big pieces need DETAILS and lots of COLORS! pixel art does not have auto-gradients and stuff like that to make everything look smooth, so you have to add these details ^^.
First of all, the mountains should go more blue as they fade into the background.
for the clouds try simple shapes at first and refine it :D
I dont have much more to say, I think the image speaks for itself  :P

and make sure they are panoramic :p (TERRIBLE EDIT!!!)

(unless they're used as background layers for some interactive experience, imvho)

(message edited, I thought philippejugnet was the OP) :

Hello Juninho.
Don't go into details before thinking more about the composition.
You made a boring picture, and you need to understand why :

- All your montains are exactly the same height

- All your montains have the same shape and angle

- Basically you're filling the space with perfectly regular shapes. There is no point that can draw the attention in your image. We don't know where to look.

- Where are the rocks, the trees, the snow ? You need to figure out where the rocky places are, where the forest are, where the snow is, all of this using color variations.

- The fog must be progressive. Fade the mountains in the middle.

- No foreground elements ? Or no humans on the mountains ? There is no sense of scale here. You need to put some elements we can use to figure out the scale of the panorama. Any element. A village, a tree, a group of human, otherwise we can't imagine how big it is.

A simple edit using philippejugnet's base just to show some work on composition, I didn't care about details or palette.
Of course the foreground thing doesn't apply at all if you were just willing to make a background for the game. I would actually
add more fog to make the foreground where you play pop more and make the game easier to read.

Another piece you won't ever finish I guess.
Too bad you clearly have some intuiton and talent, but you need a better workflow.
As usual, you went directly into details before thinking about the composition.
So congratulations ! You made another boring picture.

I have a very bad feeling that this was directed towards Phillipe...  If so, keep in mind that he is not the OP, and was just giving some C+C to the OP.  I'm not quite sure that was a fair thing to say to Phillipe regardless.

Well, I personally thought the OP was going for something that was more of a background for a scene that would be layered on top (maybe a platformer or something?), though that inference could be wrong.  I completely agree with all of your other points, though.  I guess we'll have to see if OP returns with an edit to see what advances he's made based on the C+C.

tim, I suppose your post is directed at philippejugnet? Did you notice this is not his thread? Not saying that criticizing edits is a bad thing, but the focus should probably be on the main piece.

Oh god, I'm too tired these days.
You are right and I'm totally wrong, I was absolutely sure philippejugnet was the OP.
I will edit my original message.

(done. also edited the picture with three steps instead of two.)

And in the case it was philippejugnet's thread, keep in mind that the quoted message would have earned you a strike. The first rule of Pixelation is to not be an ass. If you - or anyone - do not like philippe's propensity to not finish his pieces, feel free to not give him critique. There will be no more of this bullying.

I understand, and you are right, the original message was too agressive.
I hope my critique & edit will be useful despite my behavior.
