when doing such small pieces, contrast is key :)

Hmm, i would at least acknowledge ryu, its the main problem here. You dont have any definition, the colours are too close.

these guys like to hammer on you when you're new ;)  I was accused of stealing my SWAT sprite on my very first post!  they warm up after a while though.  Here's what I had layin around, I'll bust out a couple in a little bit here:

At first I thought that contrast comment was way off-base, but now I can definitely see what you guys were talkin about.  The gasmask and grim guys were from a while ago, and the vehicles were done much more recently and with some guidance from the advance wars sprites.  what a difference!

EDIT: Ok astronaut time!

Everything is better when it is a spacesuit.

those are really amazing adam... it really goes to show what contrast can do. also i think outlines are very important at this size.
here's a quick attempt.

Nobody posts here to try to be a hammer on the new people, they post to help. The comment wasn't meant to detour your fun, but to make things more enjoyable. Making 16x15 sprites can be fun, but making definitive, clear, and just overall better looking and improved sprites is even better. And I agree with the contrast comment, add more contrast to the sprites and you will be able to define the features of the sprites a lot more, because in such a small space with not much room for outlines, contrast is all that's going to help you do that.

Comments may be blunt and to the point sometimes, but helping art isn't always about being nice, but honest. I've been here since the pixelation days, and I've gotten the same comments as well, but it only helps you in the long run.

Yeah brutal is always best, and honest criticism is the only reason that I joined this forum in the first place.  However, I was accused of copying and stealing the very first animation I ever posted here, and it was entirely baseless :P  Not saying that was specifically because I was new, but I think it is unlikely that would happen if I posted a new animation this afternoon ;)
