[Finished] Pixeljoint Mimic Me Challenge

on: January 12, 2012, 04:41:27 pm
Hi guys, it's been 3 years since I last tried my hand at pixel art, so this is all very nostalgic for me.
I thought I'd try and get back into the swing of things with an entry for the current contest over at Pixeljoint.
So without any further adieu, here's what I've been busying myself with for the last 5 or so hours.

Morganne's Original Image:

Was hoping to get this done in one sitting, but I'm pretty burned out so I thought I'd post here and get some feedback before continuing and hopefully finishing this thing off tomorrow.
There's still quite a bit I have left to do, and most of the right side of the piece is still very much unfinished.
It's weighing in at 20 colours so far, and I can't see it creeping terribly much higher than that by the end.

I like yours more than the original, actually. It's really cool how smooth the shading looks on his face, especially around his cheeks. When I zoomed in, I was surprised at how few colors you were using; the transition between shades looks very smooth. Some clever AA'ing on your part I guess, heheh. =)

Thanks jams0988, I don't think this was one of Morganne's better works, and she's improved a ton since originally making it.
I guess the Pixeljoint administration agree since they picked it for this challenge.
As for the smooth shading, I'm actually using 12 shades of purple so I wouldn't really call it low colour.
If anything I've probably overdone it on the colour count, but I don't see much reason to limit myself on this one.

Progress has slowed significantly, but at least I have made some headway; I've updated my first post with current version.
