which one do you prefer?

on: May 27, 2006, 05:15:02 am
one of these will be used as a portrait for a game im making, obviously the first one is still a wip.
crits are also appreciated on both of them.

The left one has "Ryumaru" written all over it, the right looks more like a style your trying out.

I'd say the left one would make a better portrait.  Good job on both.

Both of them are done quite well but for a game portrait, the first one would work much better.
The second one has an interesting style to it and is interesting but wouldn't work as well as the first one.
Then again it really depends on the style of art in your game but I would say the first one  :D

The first is more effective.  The focal point here seems to be the face?  The first is more solemn/darker and forboding.  Also the muscle definiton is more aesthetically pleasing as are the color selections.

I prefer the composition of the second, specially the head, and the coloring and shading of the body on the first.

I like the second more.  The head on the first one is too small and I really dislike those dark dark muscle segments, although the body on the second doesn't appear convincing enough... a little more definition on the second would help.

Wasting shades. Last three are one, next two are one.

not sure to be proud or ashamed of these highlights:

yeah i know the parts with the arrows are in major need of fixing, i just lost sense of what i was doing for a minute.
is the shoulder anatomy an improvement? it was done from a study i did of my own muscles( then exxagerated of course :P)

Oh man looking good.  Huge improvement from what you started with!

Not sure why the shoulder is split on the side like that.  Ease up on the dark segments, the shoulder and the pecs do not have that deep splits.  Also the darkness behind his collarbone suggests a cavern.

I'm liking the hair, colors especially, my only concern is that it is perhaps too segmented.

i think i atleast half adressed your crits, stoven kept telling me to make his deltoids bigger,if i made a progress anim it could be an add for a creatine product or something. :P

i eased up on the dark segmenting in some places, i used the same tecnique that i used 2 pictures ago.
