[WIP] Yeti Vs. Octopus

on: September 26, 2011, 03:37:21 pm
As per the title:

A mockup for a very strange one on one beat-em-up. Although to be honest neither character design has been thought through in terms of whether they'd actually be functional in a game...

The full plan is to have a background of ice flows and icebergs and narwhals jumping out of the water like those killer whales in King Of Fighters 12, the northern lights and a big starry sky with parodius style constellations hanging in it.

Any thoughts, feedback and suggestions would be very helpful :)

Not a huge fan of the yeti, mouth and eyes, he looks like a purple domokun :D
The octopus is just epicness though :>

I like the octopus aswell. I Do like the Yeti fur but i think you would win by
Adding some facial features and re-do the mouth. Is the red stuff blood or?

Other then that, good job.

matt0, for the record, I think it's awesome.  The whole thing.  Is this for a game?

Octopi hold all their guts in that sack above their eyes and brain, so it's a heavy part their body. The sac should be pulled down by gravity a lot more, especially out of water much like this little guy's:

Also on the octopus, the tentacle lines you have underneath his eyeballs shouldn't fold up like that because they don't extend that far into his face.

I like the yeti, but he's much more simple in shape and shading than the octopus, so the focus of the image goes straight to your cephalopod (doesn't help that the octopus has a bold outline where your yeti does not. ) I'd recommend simplifying the octopus; the bumpy texture of his gut sac should actually be smooth, so just giving him more solid coloring like the yeti could be a solution to the detailing issue.

'sides that I'm loving the octopus' tentacles and the yeti's bloody mouth. Maybe add some fangs and red eyes to make him look more fearsome?
