Pixel art problem

on: May 02, 2011, 06:17:27 pm
Hello everyone. I'm making a game and i'm using GIMP 2 for making my sprites. Now the problem is that i don't understand how to make the game look good, probably because i use colors that clash with each other in some way.

i would like to have both of those game areas in the same screen, ie the greenish map and the pinkish cell map but right now they both look terrible together. Can i rectify this somehow? Can i somehow use the colors of the green landscape (i stole that from chrono trigger) and then get a functioning pallett from that using GIMP?

You can try this: http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html  or  http://kuler.adobe.com/
There you will find plenty of nice color palettes where all colors fit together.
Also remember: less is sometimes more! Use only 3 greens and browns for a forest scene, 3 shades of orange and yellow for desert etc.
