I remember you, 2dgamer, although since I only joined shortly before the board crashed, so you likely woudn't remember me. Checking through your rules, I don't see them as too bad. They seem like good rules for the kind of environment you want to create and I wish you well. The only thing that put me off about them was the way you phrased some. I think the way you phrased some of them, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 10, work well and get the point across strongly. The phrasing of the others comes off a little too strict and threatening for my liking. Take your first rule with the threat to boot out those who don't respect the other members. To me, this conflicts with your message of respect, and as you can see here it puts people off. Another example is rule 7, which I think would be better off without the sass so that it says to look at the section topic before posting.

Good luck with your board

I suppose your right... *edit* Ok, it shouldn't be so threatening now.

your forum rules terrify me and i would really never want to be part of such a strict board. to be brutally honest though, i think you made the rules because you are anal and need a feeling of control and orderly conduct. good luck recruiting and keeping members on such a strict board.

Have you ever made a game before? You must be strict and dedicated to make a game. Spend your time well, and you can do great things. :)

Personally, I don't see how having rules will really help a person create games. People know not to act like a tit, swearing in moderation should be perfectly fine, in my eyes. Most of the people I know that actually make games are the ones that don't have such strict boundaries imposed upon themselves. Myself included.

I suppose you might have a different perspective. Sure, I can see this being precautionary, but I wouldn't outright ban swearing. I would, however, warn anyone who crosses the boundaries and starts cussing in excess. I fail to see the how the usage of colloquial language and interjections have any adverse impact on one's ability to create games.

Making games simple require creativity and the smarts (not really even this oftentimes) to accomplish it, and the time to work on it. Nothing else is really necessary.

Ya know guys, it takes absolutely no effort to not cuss. I've been on numerous forums over the past 3 years and haven't sworn yet...I don't even try not to cuss, I just don't.

But maybe I'm just perfect.   ::)

Don't be such a goddamn fucking arse Xion!

JK of course... ;)

What's wrong with cussing, I do it all the time? It's annoying when it's abundant though, like gangsta language. However, if I say a piece is "fucking ace", it's fucking ace, not jolly good...

I can see the majority of you here see nothing wrong with swearing... that is why you are here I suppose, so that you can curse, swear, and do what you like. That is fine... by all means continue to do so. I'm not here to impose any restrictions on what you do here or anywhere else, but...

If you plan on signing up and posting on the 2D Gamers forum be aware of what is expected of you. I will try to make it the most enjoyable and productive forum you will visit on the web, but only with your cooperation. I don't want to be, as Helm put it, a

Sounds to me like his rules were to prevent people saying such as this. He's probably had some bad flaming experiences in the past, and his dedication to his hobby has pushed him to wanting to create a safe place to talk about pixel art with other artists. Personally, I don't see any need to swear when talking about pixels  ::)

First post  :) . Hello all.
You hit the nail right on the head!

The hell---I always thought Guybrush_Threepwood and rharpe were two different people!  Damn name changes... though I changed mine since the boards went down so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Anyway, welcome back, rharpe.
For some reason I couldn't log on in as rharpe anymore so I had to get a new handle. Thanks man!

I use to hang around quite a bit and work on my own sprites and such, but now I feel I need to help others. And I always wanted to host my own site/forum... :D

Profanity's not such a big deal (and we can, if so desired, tell god to go fuck himself, especially on such a day as today! SIX SIX SIX) but usually when it serves some other point than to make us look omg cool.
...
Rharpe, god and I agree that your rules are stupid.
...
rharpe: God is alone. You are not his friend. God is alone.

I'm not trying to argue here, but ain't that little rough, especially from a moderator??
For me, everyone should have right to believe as they please, and it's normal human right not to be blamed of it. Freedom of speech does not cover blaming others beliefs. (you can read the UN human rights statement if you disagree)

So especially when this is pixelling forum, posts like that are totally unappropriate. You're not only insulting rhape, but every believer.

No-one should be allowed to say here on this forum "god (or allah, or buddha or any other god) can go fuck himself", not because it's blasphemy in general but because it's insulting others believes.

Let's keep this forum about pixelling, not about religions or beliefs, mmkay?

Peace.
