Hi! And help with a walkcycle

on: April 16, 2011, 03:23:01 am
Hello, I'm new and I'd like to say this is a very nice site you have here. ;D I've been doing pixel art on and off for about a year now, it's a lot of fun. Anyways I'm making a flash game and this is the main character.

He is 5x5 pixels, I scaled it up to 20x20. Anyways I'm having a problem animating him. I already have a simple jump animation. But I don't know how to make it look like he is walking. ??? I can't make him much bigger or else he wouldn't fit with the rest of the world in my game. It would mean a lot to me if you could try and animate him or shrink him or edit him in anyway you think is best. Also here is some of my pixel art if you'd like to critique any please feel free to do so.

Thanks to anyone who will help me, and of course your name will be in the credits of my game.

Goomba walk?
Like waddle around.

Also you dont need to extend the legs,  you could do it Rayman style.

Hmmm..  what if you scaled EVERYTHING up?  I would have to see the rest of the game design, maybe this wouldn't work.  Looking at the little guy, I think 20x20 is a decent size for him.  What if you kept it at that size, and animated him at the size he is now?  He would keep his blocky pixel art feel, but the actual animation could be a little more fine tuned and detailed than the extreme limitation you've put on him.

Think about it.
It might not break the stylistic aesthetic you decided upon when making tiny pixel art.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm gonna do the Goomba walk style, and it probably is a good idea to bend the limitations of my game with this guy, he does need very defined animations. I'll try it out today. :)
