I've decided to scrap the two helmets and proceeded with drawing something new instead, picture 4 posts down is the one I'm drawing

Greetings, I started drawing the helmets the guys in Daft Punk uses yesterday and the first incarnation was this :

I felt that the helmet on the guy to the right was not completely realistic in terms of lightning, one reason for that was me not having a fixed source of light on either of them.

So I did what any man would do and recoloured:



The source of light is now currently in the top left corner, slightly behind the helmet. I'm not entirely happy with the colouring however, and I'm not sure how to properly fix it so I would very much enjoy C&C on it so that it can become a lot better

First, all the regions are very messy. Metal has smooth shading, and any pixel art should have organized shading. It looks like you just drew over it with a brush tool and never really refined it. Also, look at references for shading. Round objects have shaded regions that conform almost exactly to their shape, like this-


But the first thing you need to do is just clean it up.

I can see why you would think so, it does in fact look really messy even though I did try to refine it. I never thought of looking at balls to get a good reference picture of the helmet, thanks for that

I started working on the colours and overall shape, and I ended up with something completely new:


So I guess this is the new piece I want help with (and I'll change the name accordingly).
