I don't think the character lingers enough on the steps, if you take a look at how you walk you place the foot, then shift weight to it, then move forward. I think if the frame where the step has been taken is there for a few milliseconds longer, the walking will appear more realistic.

I like the character, very cute :)

I know the colors are bad, but I really need help with this grass:

What's up with the downwards tiles? I also tried a grass texture but didn't go too well... meh.

New edit. I still don't like the earth -- it looks too over-charged, doesn't it?

Alright! Last edit in a little while! -dies-

What program are you using? I might make an edit to express what i could attempt to say about it. Good luck so far!

I think perhaps the problem with the 'downward tiles' is the fact that the grass is pointing in an unnatural way. The upward tiles are accurate because the grass grows upwards, so the tips of the grass are going to be visible. The downward tiles would look more like: http://www.thefieldposition.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/latham-corn-field2.jpg

except pixelled obviously. You need to show the strands of grass merging in with the mass of green in the centre.

I like your grass texture, but I think the strands of grass need to appear longer.

I realy like the style on your mockup  :).  The major problem IMO is that most of the art feels unrefined.

looks pretty good, but a few things.  First, you need to give cast shadows to the trees and house, because otherwise they dont look grounded.  Also, not enough contrast in the house; the entire house appears to be in shadow currently.  And the leaves on the trees seem a little too clumpy, like its made up of a bunch of leaf balls, rather than just being made up of leaves.  It gives the effect of the leaves seeming too solid and weighty.

The trees don't look like I see them from up, because your light colour is in the end of the top areas. You must see a bit from back areas.

Just some fast explanation is here:
