Water Spirit - Need some help...

on: December 18, 2010, 07:24:54 pm
So I've been working on this piece for the past week.

Today I decided to make the bottom half of her more interested, so I decided to have her come out of a pool of water. Problem is, I have no idea how to shade water. :| Any tips? I've been searching for other water examples but they're all too detailed or color-intensive...

I guess if you can find no examples then google ocean or water and use that as reference. Looks to me like you have a good base to build on right there.

I ended up going simple and using some sin curves.

Something that is distracting me is an apparent lack of right shoulder.

Great, love the stylized water.

When you look at her face it's hard to tell whether she is looking straight at you and is missing an eye, or if she's looking to the side. I know she's looking to the side but it still plays tricks with your eyes. I think the mouth needs to be moved a little to the left.

Hah, i know what you saying! i made a draw yesterday and had the same problem of ambiguous face look.. The fact is the face look more it was cuted in half with the mouth in her right side. Or to simplify: has a mount of hair in her left side of face.

There's something i want to tell, i didnt see before but, her neck are too straight and the body have a diagonal inclination, i made a edit to show you:

OK so I made a few updates

- lifted her shoulders
- moved her mousemouth. Why the hell did I say mouse?
- cleaned up some random lines

qramon, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say but her body is supposed to be on an angle.

Edit: Deadline just passed, so that's the last edit I'll be able to make. :/

Hey man I'm liking it, especially the water. But really the face is not cutting it. Getting that slight angle in a face with few pixels is in my opinion really really fun, and can have awesome looking results. Right now the face is very cartoonish. Here is my edit, ignore the hair I started playing with it then got bored and gave up.

I was trying to get an even slighter angle, but failed.
