Need help w/Bright Color Characters [WIP]

on: October 21, 2010, 07:00:47 pm
Ok... So, in the depths of my mind, I came up with a small game concept. I prolly wont take it so far as to code it, but for the time being, i enjoy when i have something to create.

I am making some base color people, and I hope to add more... But then again, i did last time too. ;)

I would Just like to know how i could make these guys have a rubbery/shiney feel to them. Something that looks like it could bounce. Can you guys help me?

AA'd white highlights. Everywhere. xD

No, but seriously. A smooth, shiny, rubber-esque look would be accomplished by making them shinier. Now, the white dude there will be an issue, not sure how to resolve that one, but the rest of them definitely.

on the off chance you have not see this already, using light to define what material an object is made out of is discussed briefly here:

It's all in the shading.
I'd recommend adding in some intense highlights and a really soft glow around the edges to give it a transparent/gummy feel.

The shading as it is now feels sort of inconsistent, and I would recommend making most of the light shine on the parts closer to the viewer, such as the leg on the left, and I'd make that line of white continue up the body. Maybe I'll provide an example, as I'm pretty bad at putting it into words.

Please do. :P

Here... I did what i could, i also increased the size of the characters... By quite a bit.

They look alot better when they are larger, i didnt have a whole lot of space to work with with my other guys.

<EDIT>

Forgot the orange guy...

Yes, i created running sprites/outlines!
I played the animation for myself and it looks decent,but aside from a few body fidgets, everything looks better than i had expected! :D

Could you post the animation? This is really intriguing.
