ah ha ... i hear ya, ok, im reworking, thanks!  :)

Update:

Here we go! I've removed dark tops of walls as I think that was off putting and changed the shade colour, hopefully it's better ...

Ignore the floor shades as I've gone a bit abstract with that! :)

isn't this how shadow should be projected here instead?

I'd probably edge it to the left about 8 pixels or so.

As well, shadows really shouldn't overlap unless there's more than one lightsource.

I really like the latest edit, looks much improved . I just have a question about the door though. It looks REALLY big compared to the tiny sprites you have. Any reason why the sprites are so tiny, and the world so big?

Here's an updated version taking on board all the comments, doors smaller now, the characters are quite small as Im going for that cannon fodder vibe but set in a large scale space (game narrative led). I've shifted the shadows on the tables so im hoping they look better now  :)

I didn't think about it until now, but that shadow from the walls is also wrong; Since those are pyramid shaped walls you'd expect that the 45 degree shadow lines would not be parallel (I don't really feel like doing the precise math, but as an example the shadow on the top left part of the pyramid should be at a 30 degree angle and the bottom right at a 60 degree angle.
This is because the corresponding corners of the pyramid aren't parallel (they are sloped towards each other).
