[WIP] Game-Protagonist Base

on: August 24, 2010, 02:07:16 pm
Heyho Pixelation-Forum,
I am registrated for reading for quite some time and am now at a point where I could really need some advice.

The left arm is btw a mutation, thats why its big and black.
This is supposed to be the base for the protagonist of my game, so I will have to turn him into different directions and animate him. therefore I need a good base, because he is going to wear different clothing, but I don't have much experience with bases...

Do you guys have any tips for me?

Hello.

Best tip I can give you is create the base first, and then create the characters afterwards. The only thing you have to worry about are proportions... good shading in the face and the areas that will be visible by most characters. I have seen a couple bases in which people go hardcore and detail the chest and all these parts of the body that will not be viewed since most (if not all) get clothing thrown on them in the end, if you know what I mean.
If you're not good with bases, I suggest that you look at character sprites from commercial Rpgs.

These are good examples:
