God I love disgaea  but a few things ,
1.His arms are too short.
2.Tiles shouldn't get darker on the outside, they need to flow as one.
3. You have a good method of starting sprites but might i recommend http://www.derekyu.com/?page_id=218 to help you improve.

I realized that the character did in this post is Laharl!

For me, I copied it from Laharl by red rope around his neck and the large meteorite that does.
Same as Laharl makes the game under the name Overlord Warth
