Retro animation help!

I'm not sure how to go about animating this... any tips?

Yeah, sorry about that. it's going to be enlarged quite a bit when finished. : :P
Also he's going to be holding a gun in his right hand, so it wont be swinging.

you might want to put a head on the guy... i did an edit but it was before you said about the gun. I'll post it anyway.

Here is something I made a couple years ago, perhaps it helps.

There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Looks more like he is swinging his arm around in a spin. XD
Oh and yeah, the shoulder seems to be his head, which is quite odd.

Did a few more animations, and finally added a head to the little guy! Having trouble animating the running turret blah, and that picture helped quite a bit ptoing, thanks!

What if you add the other 2 legs on the turret to make it walk on 4 instead?
