The ever popular WIP platform hero

on: August 03, 2010, 01:40:48 am
Hey!

I posted a sprite a while back and realised I'd not really shown my best work, so I've been practising all on my own and have developed my skills a wee bit.

At the end of the day, you learn by critique so I thought i'd post this base sprite. This one is the most important, it's not even close to 100% finished yet, but I need some guidance from someone other than my missus :P

18 colours incl. transparency

apologies for the hideous magenta... not sure how to export transparent png's with graphicsgale  :(

thanks for having a butchers!

Not going to lie.
I love this little dude. (although his face is a bit scary)

* shaved off a single shade of brown.
* Removed the white glare on his face. (mostly because it bugged me.)
* cleaned up some hard to read areas.
* swapped the shade of dark red for a red-violet shade.

Erm, that's all can say for now.
I'm sure someone with more experience than me can do better than me.

to be honest I find all of the changes in the edit, excepting perhaps the removal of the specular highlights on the face, to be negative.

not sure what that hand is doing, I assume it's supposed to be in his pocket but instead it just looks like it comes to a sharpened point.
liking the sprite so far

I love the style you've got going here!

took a crack at editing this, hope you don't mind

got rid of a few colors that I felt didn't really need to be there and just kinda made small chances everywhere else. I tried to keep the style of the original sprite in tact, hopefully that's still there haha

heyy. thanks a lot for all the help!

i've messed about with the colours and taken everyone's edits into consideration.

i had no idea what i was going to do with the hands as they're my weakest area, i would have mentioned something after I realised but I fell asleep pretty much straight after I posted it :P

i'm still not happy with it though and I'm not sure what looks wrong... it just does.

edit: just had another play about with him...

still no luck on the transparent graphicsgale front though. looks like i'll have to find £14 from somewhere  :P

To export something out of graphicsgale with transparency, you need to click the "..." button on the frame in the toolbar and choose the color you want to make transparent

thought I mentioned this in my last post, but I guess not

right you are an absolute hero. I realised I was making the layer transparent instead of the frame  :yell:
