Spot My Pixels

on: April 02, 2006, 09:46:50 am
hey

Well after coming accross this screen of Donkey Kong, King of Swing, I ended up saving it and adding some pixels to it. Anyhows I thought it might be a good idea to post it here and ask if anyone who does NOT know this game, but rather knows alot about pixels can try and spot the couple of thingies I added, and HOW they figured / flaws in my pixels. :)

Here it is, so enjoy! (can't seem to access my webspace, so using http://imageshack.us for nows).

 Heh, looks good. The things I think you've added are probably the hearts.

I would say diddy looks out of place.  Just the pose doesnt look right.
Back from hiatus, just remembered how excellent this community is at forming technique in a fledgeling artist of any kind.

hey

{WARNING: SPOILER}
Ahh, well that didn't last long :-\. But yea, I added Diddy, he is meant to be taking his hat off to scratch his head (like an idle animation). But yea, at least you didn't spot from seeing really sucky pixels? well others might notice issues now they know and can focus in on him. Anyhows I should let everyone know that I don't even know if Diddy Kong is even in this game, and that's why I wanted people who knew the game to stay clear, hehe.

Anyhows ther is one other smaller (in the amount of work it took) thing I added...

He is:

I haven't played the game, but it was pretty obvious Diddy was of your making.
1. You use the flesh outline for the whole body, whereas Donkey and Crankey use a darker brown for fur outlining.
2. KoS sprites use a really clean, smooth and simple style, you have loads of AA faults and the way you've shaded such small areas makes things look dirty.
3. That pose really doesn't fit with the design of the other characters.

hey

well done a quik edit to his legs...

@Faceless: You right!

Mine sucks now seeing the real Diddy, hehe. BTW, the other thing was that I just added a bit more to the right side of the mountain in the background, pretty stupid, hehe. ;)

edit:

Tried to address some things Faceless pointed out.

another edit:

I'm actually pretty happy with it now. :)

Diddys left arm looks to short compared to his other.
Oh and his eyes looks like he
take some drugs minutes ago.

Another edit, redone the eyes. Well I think I should pixel something else now, Diddy is losing his konga beat.

And you can find the original screen at http://fms.komkon.org/VGBA/. :)

Thanks to those with feedback.

Looking a lot better. If you decide to fix it up some more, maybe you should show a bit more of the hat. Wouldn't have guessed he was holding it hadn't I read your description. His pose is a bit different than the other Kongs since they always face ither left or right. Of course, that would mean doing just about all over again... so maybe not.  :-\
