suffers from some banding on the aa
also it's typically best not to crowd the board with threads, keeping the pieces in a single thread would be much neater.

I feel that the greys, as they are right now, do not have enough noticeable presence in the piece to be considered useful; I suggest killing the lighter grey altogether and using the darker grey to get nice crisp shading.

WM is right, your greys are too close, esp the one next to black.
I changed that in my edit, and also fiddled with the aa and some of the smaller clusters. Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions about the edit just ask.

this is going to sound pretty noobish i'm sure, but what exactly is "AA"? i've heard of it many times, but idk what it means.

That means antialiased or antialiasing I guess. Anyone correct me please if I am wrong.  :)

Here is a picture of what that means when it is done by software:

Correct, kamol. And you're pic does well to illustrate the difference between a shape that's AA'ed and one that's not. Though, the Anti-Aliased example in yer pic is too AA'ed to the point of blurry. It's overdone. Be wary of getting carried away with AA. It's a mistake we all make if not careful.
