Small image dump

on: March 29, 2006, 08:45:16 am

This was fun! I would be glad if someone could tell who/what half of these are, startled if they got all save a few, and astonished if someone got them all. The chars under the yellow line are made up on the spot, so if you recognize any of them it's an entirely coincidental likeness.

My interpretation of Padan Fain from the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. He's probably going to cut out your pancreas soon.

Pixel-art version of this. Really quick job that I'm not too happy with.

Please hit me with any crits or comments you think of!

Isnt the one before Mario, the guy from the Mokey Island?
And also the one under Snow white, I think it is the woman from the 5th element

I think they are really well done, really recognizable.

The guy next to Guybrush is Roger Wilco. The Lego guy is a Servebot from Megaman Legends. The woman left of the tentacles *could* be Bloodrayne judgeing from the hair and the black colours. Though, I think she had gray stockings. The guy next to Homer could be the hero of Kingsquest. The woman next to Vader looks like the heroine from No one Lives Forever. The guy left of Yoda looks more like a random soldier from some future fps. Maybe Ghost Recon, or Halo? Im guessing the police officer is just that: a police officer. From Gta maybe? The guy left of him I know I've seen before. He could be Foster from Beneath a Steel Sky, but he's got red shoulder pads... I know that there's someone that looks lke that from some old fps I saw people play. Maybe that Starwars game? Something like quake? Don't really play any fps games.

I'm not sure about some of what you say is right... I dig the no-one-lives forever chick... I think you're right there... It's definatly not bloodrayne... no arm blades... the guy left of yoda (as ptoing correctly [maybe] sez) is Marvin, the paranoid android.... not sure about any of the others that are missing.

Ops! Put in the wrong directions. I meant on Yoda's right side. I have no problem seeing that witch one Marvin is. Saw ptoing guessing it could be Chewbacca, but I think it looks more like a helmet. Next, I meant the guy on the police officers (again) right side. I never played Commander Keen, but I still know what he looks like. *shrug*

Nice pickups. Though, one can hardly tell the difference between some of the items. For example the first and last soda can (next to the toilet paper), the second and last... coin? The ones next to the £ bag. Still, a lot of stuff for just using 16 colours. I'm guessing these were a lot larger in the game?

Pete, in general it's bad etiquette to "hijack" someones thread by posting your own art in it (unless it's an edit to help) as it tends to take focus from the original post somewhat. You should have posted them in an own thread (because they rock)

Okay, correct guesses so far:
Keen, Just A Police Man, Generic Star Trek Character, Croft, Croft, Chaplin, McDonald,

Cate Archer, Vader, Stormtrooper, Fett, (No one has gotten this one right yet, look directly below him for a hint), Homer,

Wilco, Guybrush (that is a banana, Guybrush with a gun would be silly, he's probably trying to lure a three-headed monkey somewhere), Fire Mario, Link, Beast, Legoman,

Snow White, Robin Hood, Rincewind, The Luggage, (generic wizard works, but there was a specific one who wasn't Gandalf that I had in mind), Huntchback, Esmerelda

Leeloo (5th element), (nobody's gotten this one yet, she's from a TV show), Purple Tentacle, Green Tentacle, Jessica Rabbit, Marvin, Yoda, (nobody's gotten this one yet, I see the confusion with Chewbacca though, especially right next to Yoda)

I believe I shall do some animating of these in the future. Anyone got any comments/crits for the other two images?

Yoinks! She does look just like the chick from Alias, probably more like her that my intended character. And yup, the guy next to Homer is Gaston:
"No one's slick as Gaston
No one's quick as Gaston
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston's!"

Hint for the very last one: he's not from any licensed media (TV show, game, movie).

Five points to Neverest for guessing the last guy! Five to Razz for recognizing Gaston right away!

And now for two animations:

Gaston used to eat four dozen eggs every morning. Now he eats five dozen eggs. So Gaston is roughly the size of a barge.
Rincewind demonstrating his usual modus operandi. Pound that ground, Wizzard.

More will be forthcoming.

Skipping past all the other replies to test myself... this'll be fun...

I see Commander Keen, Lara Croft, that... space guy... what's his name... Darth Vader, a Storm Trooper, Boba Fett (good job on the details, dude!), Homer next to a guy I've also seen before but can't remember where from... Heh, the purple-shirt dude looks like the early Duke Nukem. There's Mario and Link and.. the Beast? and a Lego man?? wtf. Snow White, and a Robin Hood wannabe... I don't care what anyone says, that is so Zoggles' wizard. And the Notre Dame dude, and a witch of some type. Um... Purple and Green Tentacle! Woo! And that... chick.. Jessica. Marvin. Yoda. And a guy with a gun.

*scroll*

Gaston. Damnit, I should've gotten that one. Good job on all of these, they're superb considering the size. Make more!
[edit] Holy crap, wait, that's Snow White! How'd I miss that?! [/edit]

The first one is how I'd actually make Zoggle's wizard. I had no idea what the last one's body is supposed to look like so I just made something up. They should all be pretty easy to guess.

The Luggage is lost again! It's probably looking for either a snack, or its owner. Perhaps both.

Lara and Ronald McDonald had a typical celebrity marrage--short and violent.

Helm: Animation is my passion and one true <3! I do need to work on my keyframing skills though, I'm not so good at low frame-count stuff.
About those colors--I borrowed the palette from one of Ptoing's C64 images to get a more authentic Yus Bird appearance. Actually, I'm not sure how the colors work on the C64, so I'm not sure if I was stealing some Ptoing-custom colors, or just standard C64 ones. I need to experiment with shading in huge hue-shifts like that more often, it's pretty fun.

Baccaman21: What's Captain Ludendorff do? He's begging to be animated but I'm not sure what to do with the man.

Really cool stuff here. I especially love the run animation of the Luggage, very cool feet movement.

The c64 palette I use is a lightened version of the Pepto-palette

Here is a little rant about the c64 palette and stuff. I use this slighly lighter palette because it looks better on pc monitors. The pepto one which is really close to the real thing is a bit dark on pc monitors and the white sticks out a lot. If watched on a c64 monitor or a blurry telly set it's way not as apperant.

Commander Keen, a cop (is he a specific cop?), ?, Lara, Lara, Charlie Caplain or Jack the Ripper?, Ronald McDonald

?, Darth Vader, Storm Trooper, Boba Fett, Cpt. Zapp Brannigan, Homer Simpson

Duke Nuke, ?, Mario (fire flower powered up), Link, Beast (from Disney), one of those Tronn bots

Snow White, Robin Hood, wizards..., Hunchback and the gypsie (Disney style again)

?, ?, tencacles from Maniac Mansion (or Day of the Tentacle), Jessica Rabbit, Marvin (Hitchiker's Guide), Yoda, Chewbacca

And might I say, I'm most envious of your ability to render so many instantly recognizable likenesses with so few pixels. Well done.

VERY neat. By the way, how long'd it take you to get Roxann there to look right? Personally, I can think of nothing worse than making miniature anthropomorphic heads. I've done it a hundred times, and I never ever feel even the least satisfied with them.

Rox, I'd say it took me about 10 minutes, it was one of the more difficult heads. It's hard to figure out what details to keep and what to drop, her face shape and ears were quite quick to do, but it took some experimenting to get the eyes and hair looking acceptable.

I'm probably not going to do anything with my avatar again. I'm really not very happy with the character design, or even the animation anymore. :P Hopefully I'll soon hit on some inspiring idea and do a replacement animation as big and better looking to replace it.

I started on a plane for Ludendorff (I figured a Fokker DR 1 would be good, still need to fix the proportions on it though) and lengthened his coat.

And thanks, Flame, for pointing out that Link rather sucked, I never was entirely satisfied with him and your comment pushed me to do a fix:

Better?

Thanks for all the comments so far! I should have some more stuff to show by Sunday evening.

Back from hiatus, just remembered how excellent this community is at forming technique in a fledgeling artist of any kind.

It's probably better for your cred to NOT know what the luggage is...

But if you insist... (and I'm ashamed to admit it) ---  it's a character from the "oh so funny and wholy original" discworld novels by that "master of mirth, merriment and wit" Mr Terry 'I have a big wide brimmed hat and a beard so that makes me a successful AUTHOR' Pratchett... personally I wouldn't bother... Douglas 'I don't need to pretend to be clever so I don't have a beard and a big wide brimmed hat... ...oh! and I'm also dead (for tax reasons - obviously)' Adams was the first and best at that kind of 'clever' parody thing - as was Robert Rankin come to think of it... but he never quite hit mainstream but worth a gamble if you like silly books abouit time travelling sprouts and elvis...

If any of that makes sense... then I'm off to grow a beard and buy a wide brimmed hat...

;)
