Small stuff

on: May 13, 2010, 05:10:51 pm
So uh, as this is my first post I better have a long detailed history of myself. Basically I've been on and off into Pixel Art for awhile, and I've poked around this site but I have always been to intimidated to join. I sprite for the game Cortex Command almost exclusively, so I started whining that we should have some sort of sprite help thread there. The mods were all like "Well why don't YOU do it". Backed up into a corner, I had to accept. It's helped me improve tremendously, but I think that if I am going to fill the role well enough I need to be better. I've swallowed my fear (it is now giving me indigestion) and decided to post here.

Thanks a lot! The CC forums have a built in uploader so I'm kind of inexperienced.

Contrary?

Anyways, You should make the apple more rounded and less isolike octagonal.
Photocopier: the fact that arne can also code so well
Photocopier: is horrificly unfair

I thought the same too, but everything I tried just made it look more misshapen.

Show me how?

True. Could be a tomato right now.

Here's a nice ref pic.

Notice the all too typical single leaf. Aside from the shape, your green pixels on top look more like a tomato's or persimmon's stem. Go for the quintessential singular leaf instead. It's a dead give away for "apple". At that scale, you can't mesh your details too much. Go for bold simple elements.

Thanks for the feedback!

You're right, it did like a persimmon. Is this much better?

You got 'er. Now move into the next thing. Don't spend too much time tinkering if this is for a larger project.

Are these sprites just miscellaneous practice?

Funny story this is actually an edit of someone else's apple.

I am really glad how well this turned out to you and Lizard. I'd really like to incorporate it into something tangible- but alas I am but an average citizen of the least motivated generation. Maybe I'll be mega adventurous and make a person next.

BAM. It's... I don't really know. A headless hulk in Castlevania clothing. I was poking around the site and I felt really inspired to make something completely different from what I normally do.
