Some animations

on: April 28, 2010, 04:06:18 am
Gosh! Everyone here is so talented, it's very intimidating to post anything!

Here are some animations I made for an engine I'm working on for a game that probably won't be finished! :I

There's a lack of leg movement on the firing because the legs are a seperate object ingame since you can fire in different directions while strafing and stuff, eheh.

Please, go easy on me! I am open to critique but I feel so inferior to most of the people here ;w;!

Seems good to me  :)

Here's a quick highlight edit:

Added 2 colors on face and changed lightest pink color to pure white.

So nothing minor needs to be done here just some nitpicking  :y:

Oh, I can't believe it never even crossed my mind to add highlights! It actually adds quite a bit more energy to the firing animation, thanks!

Is the walking animation really just fine, though? I'm pretty concerned that his legs might be too stiff, but maybe I'm just seeing things.

Nice sprites  :) Yeah I think you do need to check some of the walk animation topics, the legs don't look they're bending too much - they seem a bit closer to swinging pendulums.

The legs appear to not bend. The arms may be too exaggerated.
For every step, he looks to the viewer instead of facing forward.
I really like the style and want to like the walk animation, but it is flawed.

Thank you, that was exactly the advice I was looking for! I'll work on this later whenever I've got some time to do so. Thanks so much, again!  :)

The "head sway" (sidewards motion of the head) is a tricky subject in animation. Simply put, we don't sway our heads in real life because the eye is usually focussed on one point.
The thing is, a head sway may add some dynamics and style to an animation. It's usually not something you want to exagerate, but it has its place.

The way you have it, it's subtle, it's a matter of opinion. You can take it out or leave it in, but it's certainly not a "flaw".

It's true that the legs and arms are rigid and need bending, but the pendulum motion is pretty good, so keep the current movement as a base.
