Huzzah, thanks for posting this, I can't wait to watch it when I'm not at the office.  Been wanting to mess with A) 3D more, B) Try my hand at Low-Poly, and C) Give Blender a try.  This looks perfect for getting me to do all 3 :D

They change things around way to often! Hopefully it won't be anything major, it's usualy small changes to the GUI.

These look great! I always get freaked out by blender and its crazy right click selection/3D cursor... I use Wings3D normally.

Some hints to new users of blender that are super useful are - (with the ever annoying 3D cursor), you can re-centre this by pushing shift-C (re-centre's to selected object + view) or (if you have multiple objects) you can push A (to deselect) tab (to get out of edit) and select your object and use shift-S<center to selection.

As far as navigation goes - C is the shortcut to center view on cursor. So if you find your view rotating in a really weird way, you can fix this by centering the 3D cursor to your object - the pushing C... then it rotates much more nicely.

Anyway - I'll get back to playing with this. I'm using an older version of blender anyway (2.46) so all the stuff is the same for me :b: Thanks for what seem like a great little series of tut's so far.

I appreciated the video even though i use autodesk; watching the workflow was nice even without the specifics of program tools and keys

The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Going to the 3d cursor and rotation, if you want to rotate around an object, there's a way to do that in the preferences, or just select an object and press the period button on the numpad.

It's a shame that it's just about Blender (and a soon outdated version, too).
I would kill to see a tutorial like this for other programs.

Just a question.
I've made all 3, body, head and hand, in different saves.
How do you make them all in the same space if you have done like this?

You can save components of your model how .3ds; or .obj; .ms3d e.c.t. and use import, but it is not very convenient. Just a variant.

Might be using some hard to read format? Try out PNG.

Also, I noticed that you cannot control bones anymore. =/
Been trying to "use commands" on bones but nothing happens, can't even rotate them like in the video.

Ps. Edit mode duuuh.><

Another issue, even with the X Axis Mirror, it doesn't work at all when I try to use your Shoulder parent to neck, however, when I created a new bone and moved it to the place of the shoulder, it didn't get mirrored and only gets viewed as such.

Any ideas why?
Or something got left out? =/

Going to put this on ice, been browsing other pages and search engines, but got no answer from it unless I need to make use of the shift E Extrude Mirror, but that means redoing the whole bone structure again. >.<

I would gladly show you with the .blend file but got no storage online to use. Anyone have any ideas which is a good site for that?

I got to this point
http://a.imageshack.us/img189/4783/help1ri.png
But then I saw you on the next skip after your video editing, and noticed you had double sided Bones, and no clue how to do that, and while keeping the bone vertics mirrored with the mirrored object. =/

You create a wireframe from the objects you extrude and scale.
If you mean a wireframe control, you usually don't need it due to the models you can use already.

I think he meant making sketches with planned out edge positions
Well, you don't need to be pinpoint precise with that. In fact, all the sketch should do is being a guideline for proportions.
Does scaling an image blur it?

So far I've been able to use the 2.49 without any trouble on it, the new 2.5 that's out though I haven't seen much of.

So yes, this guide is quite nice. :)

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm having fun following through it, although I'm stuck on part 6.
Whenever I unwrap a cube it always comes out with weird shapes. edit: I've fixed that.

My next problem is when I'm trying to apply textures to a cube, I created a little texture thing
in paint, with each face being 16x16 pixels. When I load it into blender, the pixel art becomes
stretched and blurry, is there a way around this?

These tutorials actually got me back into doing 3d stuff. I've never used Blender before, but these tutorials explain how to get around pretty well. Blender's turning out to be a pretty cool program. I'm also working on a Macbook (no mouse, no numpad), but I've developed a pretty good workflow without those. The only downside is manually changing views through menus.

ctrl+alt+left arrow, or right arrow cycles the saved views. might be apple key on mac, not sure.

Update for anyone downloading the latest version. Was getting frustrated trying to find this info so thought Id post it now that I found it.

- The Alt + left click no longer works to rotate your 'canvas' unless you use 'simulate third mouse button' in settings. Otherwise you use your middle mouse button to rotate.
- To get mirror working it will be on the right panel, now on the bottom, the bottom is now for your animation.
- k is no longer loop cut, search loop cut in your settings to change this, also it doesn't knife cut the same, maybe there is another button? not sure. If you know let me know :)

Other than that i haven't found much difference so far for how far along I am.
