No crits, just a question.  How do you eliminate the look of the pixels?  All the art I've seen you do here is pixel art but doesn't look like it which to me is amazing.

While I suspect that 1Up has his own answer, I can say for myself that taking away the pixelliness of a piece has all to do with 2 things : learning by eye, and never banding.  Banding and jaggies (two parts of the same problem - banding is just jaggies over multiple colors) are the single largest giveaways to pixel art.  How work work shadows around and over outlines and how to bleed over highlights to create the idea of an emergent (not delineated) form is something you learn with time and practice.
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Love larvitar <3

The others look a bit too like pokemon sprites for my taste, you may like them that way, but i think they would be better fir they were in the same dynamic style as larvitar.

Perhaps give some of them skin textures. For example, feathers for the delibird. Nothing too cluttered, but something varied from the standard skin that all pokemon have.

this is the final list of pokemon im gonna do for this project

luxray is a tough motherfucker to sprite, and was fired as a result :donaldtrump:
also, borrowed toxicroak's pose from the official artwork there because i am lazy

e: and i got comments about it on tsr, so i'll mention it here before someone brings it up
shiny croagunk and toxicroak

not normal ones
that's why the palette is different

Lookin' noice. Fave is the top middle green thing (don't know jack about pokeymanz)

Top left froggy thing doesn't match set - not as reflective and has more detail, lacking the same "cell-shaded" style as rest.

Whoa I just noticed the biped killer rabbit freak . . . that's a pokeymanz?

@weavile; the arms look a bit too long, the pallet is too much on the blue side, and the 3 claws on each hand look like one giant one. other then that, good job. i like the shading.
@thatsmallrockthingwhosnameescapesme; i think you should add more contrast to the eye shading. maybe add a bit more of a shine or shimmer like you did with the other pokemon.
@delibird; i'm not sure if delibird has a shimmer like penguins or distinct feathers like other bird, but from reference pictures i'd go with penguin. one thing i would do is imply the effect of feathers.

I think he means put that typical jaggedy anime hair shimmer/shiny highlight line on it's body to imply smooth shiny feathers.

If you wanted to prevent further confusion with which char is which, simply number them. Then people can just call out the number.

Weaviles pose looks uninspired and not dynamic(was that 2 things?)  It's lacking in the action line department

Maybe something like this?

wow 1up you really released my inner geek last night   from that bubapedia I went to pokemondb, from that to digimon and from that to Ben10 somehow :p

BTW, http://pokemondb.net/gallery has the pokemon in much more accesible format

Weaville's pose looks very very awkward, you have his arms creating a very clear action line....but that's it...the rest of the body doesnt seem to follow it very well, the torso is sorta swayed that way but not enough...the tail hanging so low doesnt help either. The head also looks very very weird, it looks a bit flat, look at the pokemon sprites it seems to be pontier than that

http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/05/animation-school-lesson-5-line-of.html I hope this shows you what I mean....also, look at his pokemon sprites the poses are better and the head is specially has much clearer volume

Okay, how much of a pokemon fan am i to not recognize only two of those characters...?

Anyways!

I'm going to number them by appearance from left to right. Since names escape me as well. Except for zangoose and delibird. Zangoose's pose is perfect. Excellent normal type as well. Weevil's pose should be the extreme opposite of pokemon number 12. Right now he's not dynamic enough like the others have said.

When I make that pose, my head is a little farther down. My body is stretched back a little more, expecting attacks from below. The arm that is straight out, is just a little bit lower and bent a little too. Plus, I think it would help if you swap the leg poses. The forward leg should be forward for balance, the back leg bent for steadiness.

I have no clue what pokemon are numbers 2, 11, 12, 15, and 16 are. Not a clue.

(psst, yes, i have heartgold, and we get the phanphy this time, oh yes, we get the cute little phanphy. :))

Weevil's pose should be the exact of Cale's in the last panel here. That was the pose I had in mind. (Cale is the elf by the way.)

For castform, his head and body are off. He head is tilted one way while the body is tilted the other. Normally it should look weird, but considering he doesn't have a neck it looks off. Also magby's head is shaded weird, I think there's just a sort of crown of bumps and the very top of the head is flat. Also yeah his torso is too long, as well as his arms.

2. shiny croagunk > 12. shiny toxicroak

There is an obvious difference in contrast there, mainly from the much darker black on the Toxicroak. Is this intended, because it doesn't seem right to me?

wwwwwwrong

they have the exact same palette for the blue(added and changed a few of the pink shades for toxicroak)
i just used the darker shade more often in the area behind/to the side of his head to add a more sinister feel that croagunk lacks regardless of how much contrast is there. i might have just messed up and make it look like there's more shades though so idk!!!

e:

Just because they use the same shade of blue doesn't mean they can't have different contrasts. You stated yourself you used more darker shades, and I already stated that the black on Toxicroak is way darker than the black shade used on Croagunk. Both of these end up making Croagunk feel like a different style, in my opinion.

He's talking about the black, not the blue, I believe. The black you used on Croagunk is a nice, dark grey, while the black used on Toxicroak is pure black. It doesn't look too pleasant.

Just because they use the same shade of blue doesn't mean they can't have different contrasts. You stated yourself you used more darker shades, and I already stated that the black on Toxicroak is way darker than the black shade used on Croagunk. Both of these end up making Croagunk feel like a different style, in my opinion.
oh welp

well i'll try to fix it

e:
fixed the bbcode quote mess up part of the post heh

I still think Weavile's pose isnt any better...have you thought about what he's actually doing? what's that pose good for? the other guy who has a dramatic pose looks like he might jump in the opposite direction he's leaning, but Weavile's knees being bent like they are just seem like he's sort of slacking and striking his arms in a weird way.

Even i you insist on his pose...his head really needs to be redrawn it has no depth.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  What did you do to Weavile??  He was seriously my favorite one you did!  His pose had life and he was ready to fight, now he's all like "HOWW"(that indian phrase in peter pan where they raise their hand like that)

Although if this is like the actual pokemon sprites perhaps Weavile should be looking at us.  Maybe...

Oh and about Zangoose's new gray palette, to that I say nay!  Nay I say!  The blue looked much prettier.

Make Zangoose thinner and move his head a pixel or two to the left.

EDIT: Actually, I find Zangoose's pose to be really boring. It's just all... "sup"
