comments please [WIP]

on: March 24, 2010, 05:57:03 am
Work In Progress

Progression:

Should I finish this? And if I were to finish it, should I finish it using the 2nd one or 3rd one? The 2nd one has more progression than the 3rd one, but the 3rd one has better contrast, imo. So comments please.

I like the third one the most because it seems to be coming out of the "darkness"

Your progression doesn't make sense. Why does step 1 look like a color-reduced no.2 with more brightness? What was your thinking with the semi-random noisy pixels of dark color that you later filled in with volumes that actually make sense?

And what are the black lines at the bottom of your piece supposed to signify? If it's a sketch for further progression, might want to flesh it out a bit so we can criticize it.

Also did you work from reference? If so, posting it might help. Especially if you're attempting to copy something - we could always help with it.

Currently working on right shoulder and possible revamp for center facial expression. This is taking a very long time -_-"

I'm probably gonna remake this part...

or maybe not o,o
I might keep it and go with it, but that'll mean that this thing will look like some kind of zombie human flesh-eating monster ='(
Sorry if some edges look rough. Im not good yet at making smoother edges without re-doing it again and again.

@Jad: Here's the reference
I'm still fairly new to pixeling so referencing from a pic wasnt gonna help me much so I decided to at least reference for the face and freehand everything else. And right now, I'm just going by every line I make. If the line looks composed right, then I will continue it. The progression between step 1 and 2 are the palletes. I added much more palletes on step to, to give definition. The black line is there because I was going to start freehand, but never got back to it, so it basically is incomplete. Im gonna stick with the dark gray bg to give the pixel better blending and makes it so I can work with less pallettes.

I would love to learn a type of style, but im just freehanding because im not sure I am even that good enough to try and mimic another style.

this shows simply scaling the ref image to the pixel-scale (perfect aspect ratio match), desaturate, tweak contrast/brightness settings, and index to 5 or 6 colors - and matching the indexes after.  I wasn't able to replicate the exact brightness/contrast settings, so it's a bit off.

I was able to get even more accurate by purely a manual "levels" tweak - where I basically painted ranges of value to a flat line - eyeballed to match yours.  still not perfect because I dont know your exact settings, but pretty damn close.

this shows only scale, desaturation, and color reduce.  - no contrast tweaking, no index matching.

Again, my tests are a tad off - but this was definitely color-reduced.  I wouldn't be surprised if the shoulder you're currently showing is also color-reduced from a seperate image.  The steps you're showing seems to suggest that - just as the face did.  I noticed there are a few edit/rips on your deviant art account as well which have the disclaimer "Made from scratch; 100% custom " on them.

This thread was designed to intentionally deceive.  This is usually grounds for immediate banning.  Is there anything you wish to say for yourself be0ez?

/sigh

I was going to say something, but I thought it'd be pretty ridiculous for someone to color-reduce work and post in an art critique forum asking for advice.
Are you trying to prove something? (Idk, flawed crits, maybe.)

Also, I don't think your definition of palettes is right. One palette is composed of multiple colors. So we can say your image is composed of one gray palette.

If the shoulder is truly yours, I have to say it doesn't look much like a shoulder, rather more like some abstract / foggy stuff.

I'm actually impressed that you actually did post the reference! That shows a certain degree of honesty from your side.

Anyways, well.

Son, I am disappoint.

I am almost done with the body. I will post an update soon. Perhaps I will add some type of title or something, idk.

@Indigo: Besides the minotaur, what else is ripped/edited in my gallery?

I did read the rules when I came here, but I still decided to post so to receive comments and what to fix. I still need to fix the nose and perhaps add in another shade of gray for the face/mask. I might even considering giving the head some antennas or something, not sure.

My next project is to sheet out a few bases of mine that I worked on not too long ago. They are small, 1-bit pixel images and look simple, but alright so far.

I apologize if it would seem that I have deceived you, but comments are welcome. I really want to fix up the face. I'm not liking how it is, so far.

I'm not sure if I would benefit from being banned also. Because then, I wont be able to get comments from you guys and you guys are like professionals. And I really want you guys to look at and comment my next project stated above when I'm finished with it. I hope you'll like it though.

Cya later. I gotta go to school right now so I cant comment on all I really wanted to say o,o

But why should we want to crit something for you that you didn't make?
Photocopier: the fact that arne can also code so well
Photocopier: is horrificly unfair
