Sprite for a friend...

on: March 04, 2010, 04:44:56 am

Man its been awhile since I've come here for help instead of the other way around, also one of the rare occasions where I actually make something original, at least in the pixel medium. I particularly want to keep the design very similar in the end, since its my friend's design, not mine, I just made the sprite. Anyway, good to be back, I'd love to hear thoughts, crits on this, etc. don't hesitate to tell me if you feel something's wrong, I want this to look as good as it can.

I think the shading needs more definition and more contrast. I suggest taking a bit of time to study fighting game sprites.

Looks like you're using line and shadow shapes in a style similar to anime and cartoons, but it's become a breeding ground for banding and detail that doesn't contribute to the sense of volume.

Arms are a little noodly. Needs definite elbows and wrists.

Aside from that, I like the pose and expression. Communicates character well.

EyeCraft hit the nail on the head, but here's some perspective anyways:

please include oversized references as links or thumbnails - as a general courtesy.
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Oh jeez you're bumping this? I've kinda moved on... hurm, as always I will always take critique into consideration but I'll have to think if I still want to continue this sprite or not. (If you don't see me edit this with an updatee you'll know)

This thread was laid to rest 3 months ago. Bieber boy: you've done a major necro-post (not to mention an extremely vague critique). Bengoshia has no interest in continuing the piece, thread locked.
