Tight Living

on: February 28, 2010, 04:51:26 am
Hey, I could really use some C+C on this before I finish it.  :)

Something seems lacking to me, but I can't put my finger on it.
Thanks in advanced,
Jared

the piece seems fine for what it is, it's simple and engaging.....I'm afraid you might clutter it just to add "something"

....perhaps start another one with more elements in it?

if I were to do anything I would add some colors to it...I can see a dark wine-like red (vinotinto we would say in spanish) on the background, and yellow light hitting the houses

I think the composition could be more balanced.

On the left side, there's mostly verticals, and horizontals on the right.
Maybe just cutting the hedge fence would be enough.
But as Conceit says, don't add anything!

On top of the highest roof, the black line is unnecessary.

Agreeing with everyone, ehehe. As what Manupix mentioned, the hedge, (or are those low-lying clouds?) could be trimmed down to balance out the composition. No need to add more elements, really.

I tried a little edit:

I tried thinning out the clouds to the right to serve as a softer transition from the high houses to the picket fence. The moon is an optional focal point  :P

But yeah, it's an excellent piece. It's wonderful to see such simple yet beautiful pixel art once in a while.  :)
