Pixel Art / (WIP) Jump/Block animation
« on: May 03, 2020, 07:34:10 am »
I'm getting some eyes on this in early stages because I intend to finish it soon. Don't mind the ghost image, I know it's there.

What it is: A basketball player jumping high to block a shot overhead.

My issue: This isn't quite getting the punchiness I'm trying for.

My plan is to put some twist in the body on the "hit" of the blocking motion. And while the landing sticks, I'm not sure how I'm going to make it feel more alive.

Thanks for any input.

Pixel Art / Arachne makes me jealous.

I did a spray on bandage today. It burnt worse than the actual burn burnt. Then I read the label and you're not supposed to use it on burns. Although it's now more of a scab than a burn anyhow.

Oh, and I have some colors to show.

I think the eye sort of looks too much like a globe. When I told someone that, they said they wouldn't have noticed had I said nothing. I guess I screwed the pooch with that viewer. I do not know what screwed the pooch means, I just wanted to say it.

Pixel Art / Let us lay low, together.
« on: May 08, 2007, 02:14:31 am »
For months, I've neglected you, Pixelation. I've been off living life how it should be, full of regrets, social taboos, mistakes and minor offenses. I've gotten far too lucky, chose my words wisely I suppose, but now I don't want to be out late at night causing more trouble than I'm worth.

So here's my offering, although still a work in progress, to be followed by many more.

I miss good, wholesome, fun.

Pixel Art / Wearbear

Based on one of my sketches here. I think you can find out which one.

I'm thinking about just redoing the bear entirely, making it "interact" more with the character below. They look like they were drawn separately and happened to connect at a convenient spot. Because that is what happened.

So I've been starting to think that I might be ready to get serious about pixel art and that just leads me to questions that I'd like answered by anyone with experience or just an opinion.

For a person without self motivation, is freelancing really a good idea at all? Would being an in house artist be any different?

My pixel art skills are decent right now, but my drawing is surprisingly weak, would that matter or should I start working on drawing too?

Are there any companies you would tell me to stay away from?

For offers that require relocation, does the company generally pay for the move, does the artist or is the cost at least split?

What programs should I become proficient in?

What should I expect in terms of pay and work load?

What would you say is the best for constructing a portfolio, a diverse set of mediocre pieces or the ones I feel are the best, but probably would neglect diversity? Perhaps just throw everything in chronologically to show a line of improvement?

I suppose that's all my questions for now. I know I've still got a while before I can even hold a real pixel job, since I am still the worst at animation and tiles.

Pixel Art / "... old lady pixels you!"

Lately I've just been coloring other people's lines.

This is no different.

David Stoner's lines:

My colors thus far:

Points that I'm having trouble with, or am bound to have trouble with:
The bandanna wrapped around her head, I feel something is missing in the shading of her face, the shading of the breasts and folds that occur with them, her left [viewer right] forearm. Other than those areas, I think I'm doing fairly well. Even though that only leaves the cane, the hair and her legs.

Tear it up.

Draft One
Draft Two
Draft Three:

My aa isn't doing very well, I keep messing with the figure and it looks interesting for a while then I realize that little parts are really looking too wrong and I have no idea how to make nebulae.

Pixel Art / Creatures
« on: March 29, 2006, 09:11:48 am »

Alex Marsh created the lineart, but then took it down and I accidentally saved over it. Cleaning of the lines and coloring by me, of course.

The original lines were actually a mockup sort of scene for what looked to be a fighting game, or an RPG of some sort, so I may add more to this like stat bars and a background etc. I'm not too satisfied with some of the colors (especially on the half-skull creature's body) and the form of the end projectile irks me. Critique is always good to see. And comments are nice too.

Shit. It's midnight.

Pixel Art / Hardcore robot facials!

there should be a robot in one corner firing a laser out of it's crotch into the eyes of a child in the other corner

Although Dr's suggestion just might make a wonderful piece on its own...

Laser and tweaking is the last part, unless I decide to add a background (probably not, but suggestions would still be nice). I have no idea how I'm going to make the laser penetrating through his eye. What would a laser exit wound look like?

C+C appreciated.
