Theoden: Wow, We're really glad you like it! On the music side, Daniel is working to create a layered music system, where we can keep track of the epicness and match the music to scale. We want to have those quiet, simple moments as well, and a dynamic music system seems well suited to our needs! If you like, I can put you in contact with Dan, and you could collaborate on the music?

Sure, that would be great. I can create some sample tracks and send them to Dan and see what he thinks.
Can you PM his contact info? Thanks!

This is the most amazing thing I have seen in months.
Unbelievable stuff. Feels just like the good old games from 90s.
The only thing I wasn't blown away was the in game music. I think it was too calm and weak compared to the epicness of what was going on on the screen. But don't get me wrong it's still good.
If you want I can offer you my help about the soundtrack. I can work voluntary for this awesome project.
Here are some works I have done for a yet to be realeased android game called "Alien Defense": https://soundcloud.com/cuneyt_yetisenler

I wish you the best of luck with your project.

I was gonna comment on that too but to be honest I don't know what the average is so I didn't want to go around waving false figures.

I've only been freelancing for two months or so, but I've worked at rates ranging from $5-$40/hour. It really depends on who you work for. Working for individuals of course pays less than working for companies, and companies are more responsible and you have more security working for them. I never would have worked for $5/hour of my own accord, that was just me being stupid and not signing a contract because I was so giddy about my first job. I wound up only getting half of the initially discussed payment.

I think something around 15-20 is common though, right? I know flash games get their revenue from being picked up by a portal - so your income might be a % of that purchase price. It actually might be cheaper for them to pay you something like $15 an hour, depending on how much work is going into it. Get a detailed list of all the assets you'll need to create, from that you should be able to determine roughly how many hours.

Not all clients are tight. If you have that gut feeling tearing you up inside that your time isn't being purchased for the right amount, don't take the job. : )

Yes I totally agree with you, thanks for the advice

Unfortunately clients are very tight about payments.. Just not fair, I might reconsider working with this client.

It should be about $10-15 per tile. Although it depends on the detail of the work you require.
A simple tile can be drawn in less than half an hour. But some detailed tiles take an hour or more.
So 150 tiles will cost you around $1500.

The standard is around $ 8-10 an hour. If you're getting paid by the asset, you can just figure out the average time it will take and charge based on that.

Thank you for the info.

General Discussion / Pixelart Design Pricing

Hi,
I wish to ask a question about pricing pixelart for flash games.

I picked up a  flash platform game project and I am going to design the character and background.
But I have no idea how much money I should demand. This is my first professional work and I need some advice from people who
work on platform games and earn money.

I am working on a game similar to this: http://armorgames.com/play/5599/amil

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yeah I'm doing all of the programming and art, though I'm looking for someone to do the music/sounds.  I'm not very familiar with objC but have programmed in C++ for a fair while which is part of the reason I opted for this approach.  I find C++ on the iPhone surprisingly easy to work with, once I created a simple wrapper I haven't really had to look at much objC code.

Hi, it seems a lot of time has passed since this thread was opened but I might help if you are still looking for someone to compose the music.
