Pixel Art / Compulsory Tree Tile
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:35:55 pm »
I started this as a way to work out some of my ideas about how to help people who post "Here is my tree - help!"

Understand that this has no context, no characters, no other tiles, and frankly I would not want to play a game with this tile, since there is soooooo much space obscured by it.

I tried to keep the color count down in the beginning, but got less concerned with that as time went on.  There are some AA/banding horrors and the contrast is regrettable.

All that said, this is still WIP, C&C welcome, edits even more so.

I am including wip stages so you can get a feel for its development. I have to say that while I miss some of the gestural qualities in the earlier picture, when I got down into the nuts and bolts of rendering I had a blast.

Pixel Art / Portrait of self as a young maniac [WIP]
« on: September 28, 2010, 12:34:42 am »
The goal is to have self-portrait that is Rasputin-esque. Reference: my face and a mirror. Did most of the drawing in GRAFX2.2, then didn't know how to crop so did that in Gimp.

Early-stage WIP.

C&C, edits, etc. requested and welcomed.

Pixel Art / Pixel Practice Excercises C+C
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:28:44 pm »
These are both images I picked to practice pixeling. Done using The Gimp.

The first is from page 21 of the Dover edition of Constructive Anatomy by George B Bridgman http://www.archive.org/stream/constructiveanat00briduoft#page/40/mode/2up (it ends up being on page 40 on the online version):

The second is a portion of Hive by James Jean (http://www.jamesjean.com/blog/C47057/hive)

In both cases I picked someone else's content so I could focus on technique without fretting over the original too much.

I am actively working on the second, though I will take C+C/suggestions on either.

Thanks,

Edwin
