Hi folks, just a quick update: :)

- I'm currently doing pixel art for a game and some other small things, but since University is on summer break, I'll be able to take on a smaller project for the summer. So shoot me a message if you like!
- I've updated the original post with newer information.

I placed the template on the page so that people can see it. Thanks again for the feedback!  :y::)

Think you can provide a base for use somewhere to make getting started even easier?  ;)

I think would be the base.

Huh, how about that! That question is actually pretty good feedback. I think I should promote the template a little better. Right now, it's just a small link in the description.
Thank you for that and thanks to yaomon17 for helping out! :)

General Discussion / Remember Mr. Wong's Soup'Partments?

Hello everyone!

Does anyone remember the Mr. Wong's Soup'Partments from the early 2000s? It was a huge collaborative Pixel Art Tower that can be seen here: http://www.mrwong.de/myhouse/
I did a spin on it: http://saschanaderer.com/chickenstreet/

Quote
It included the work of 406 people and it is one of my most cherished inspirations from my early days. Sadly, the project was cancelled after 2004 and no more contributions were taken.
In 2014, so ten years after that, I decided to try to give people a reason to make collaborative Pixel Art again. In the very spirit of Mr. Wong, the plan is to get as many floors as possible. My spin on the piece is that instead of creating another tower, we together go deep into the undergrounds of 69 Chickenstreet and try to create our vision of what's under that garage of the original piece.

I might add that I do this in order to recreate that kind of inspiration people got from looking at the pieces of so many great and of course not-so-great artists. The thing is, it didn't really matter that much, since the collaboration part was the key to the success.

What do you guys think? Could this work?

Portfolios / [Portfolio] I AM PIXELTIER! YES, I AM SCREAMING THIS.
« on: October 23, 2014, 09:55:11 am »

Hi, I'm Sascha. I live in Austria and I'm an independent pixel artist.

Feel free to check out my pixel art work on this portfolio.

Hiring someone can be confusing. Often, it’s tough to know what questions to ask or where to start. And that's okay! As a pixel artist and author, I’ve worked with and gotten to know many, many people – it’s what I love.

Do you need a pixel artist? Let's make what you want a reality.

Contact me via email or via Twitter and I will answer within 48 hours.

Pixel Art / Gustavo [WIP]
« on: January 01, 2011, 10:39:49 am »
Hello there!

I'm, currently working on ... well.. I don't know really:

This is a character I often use called Gustavo. What I'm going for is him kinda "longing for"... or "fighting for" the NES controller, kind of in a hero-like way. I hope you know in with direction I'm going.
But the more I'm working with the shadows I become unhappier. Something seems to be oddly strange (besides the bright face and the paw-like hands, which is probably going to be changed), especially the lower part of the body doesn't feel right.
The problem is, I can't put my finger on it.

Can you?

Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: Printing Pixel Arts ... size? RGB/CMYK?
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:11:22 am »
First of all, thanks for the response, I appreciate it :) .

The Wikipedia article has some suggestions, but they generally involve using an improved printer technology which means get a different printer.  Perhaps ask your local copy shop to print these up?  It would cost money but they probably have some high-quality machines.

That was my plan since the beginning. I should've explained that I was never planning on printing it myself. :)
But the fact is, I don't want to bring it to the copy shop and be uncertain about the outcome.

Or avoid "light, saturated colors" and maybe your prints will look better.

Well, as it should be a colorful pixel scenery (quite eboy like, perhaps not that good :) ) I can't or don't want to avoid those. I guess I'll talk to my copy shop then, maybe they can tell me more.

Thanks again!

General Discussion / Printing Pixel Arts ... size? RGB/CMYK?
« on: September 13, 2010, 10:18:42 pm »
Hi there!

I'm currently working on a pixel arts poster that I want to print in DIN A2 size. I've been pixeling some buildings in the past and I finally want to put them together to a big piece of work. So I created my PSD-File with the proper sizes and 300 dpi. After that, I copy and pasted a building in there. Of course, it was quite small so I tripled the size in order to let the viewer see the pixels. Whenever I got the chance to see pixel art posters in real life I saw that this seems to be a common thing to double or triple the size and I think it gives the better "retro" feeling to it. What do you think about that?

Also, I was reading about the fact that there could be a problem with RGB colors because of most of the copy shops wanting me to bring CMYK pictures. I'm familiar with some of the printing stuff, but to be honest, I didn't know too much about that. Then I started converting the file to CMYK and I saw that some color data was lost. I'm aware of the fact that the colors slighty change when you're converting from RGB to CMYK, but here's my problem:
I was now stuck with buildings with "sprinkled" colors. You can't see it on the monitor, but if you try to fill a certain area you can see that the colors within that area slightly differ when it comes to brightness and/or saturation. Like I said, I really can't tell the difference on the monitor, but I'm afraid that it could be when printed.
Usually I use Paint for creating all my pixel art, and Paint only gives me RGB (I think).

Do you have any advice based on experience (or theoretical knowledge, anything that helps :) ) what the best thing to do is?
I really hate the thought of having to work on my pixel art with Photoshop (besides transparency stuff and putting everything together).

...I'm looking forward to your replies!
Greetings from Austria,
snade

Those are just pretty darn impressive!
Honestly, most of them are great. That's quite an inspiration, makes me wonder if I could do some kind of mockup myself.  :y:

Hello there! I'm new here and wanted to share my work with you:

As university is over and I'm into the well deserved holidays, I thought i'd give pixeling some time again. Pixelarts and me share an on/off relationship, I've been doing it for a couple of years, but never really seriously. Now that I've found this seemingly active community there's some new spirit.

A year ago I was making some kind of portfolio-website: http://sascha_naderer.public1.linz.at/1.html
I looked into the portfolio forum, but most of the people there are looking for work (which I don't...yet) so I thought this is the right place. If not, feel free to move the thread and slap me hard :) .

My thought was to give some impressions about my current style. There's really not too much to see, but like I said, it's only an impression.
As you can see I don't really use shades, some people do, some people don't when it comes down to create isometric scenes.
For transparency (for windows), I used photoshop. I hope this does not disqualify me as a pixel artist (does it  ??? )

More of my work can be seen here:

http://snade.deviantart.com/art/Choca-Headquarters-159317896?q=sort%3Atime+gallery%3Asnade&qo=3

I'm currently working on some small projects and I think there's still room for enhancement on my work.
So, what are your thoughts?
