If you think whatever you'll do will feel too similar to mine, you could always just mirror it or so, just to give your own brain some more space to work in.

I really wanna see you do a sillhouette or a stickie though :> Please try.

This is the one you made :] No problems with it for now as long as you keep it at that. Now is time for some scetching to get a sense for the whole thing. This is absogodammitlutely necessary. It could be a stick figure or a sillhouette or whatever you like, but for detail maniacs like you and me, it's a great way of just drawing out a map of possibilities; so that you when finished can go 'phew', there's the whole thing as it's gonna be. Let's fill it with details and do the fun stuff :]

That way you won't do the head and then the arms and then get disappointed when the arms look like blobs compared to the head and stick with it until the arms look nice and then give up because you don't wanna draw the legs and you can't come up with a good way to do them because if you wanna do the pose you was aiming for, you're gonna have to redo the arms and they were already finished and you like them.

You can avoid that kind of situation just with a silhouette or a stick figure. For pixel art, I prefer sillhouettes.

Like that. Since we had a reference, making the proportions weren't that hard and so.

Your original sketch was in 2 colours and that's suparr. 2 colors to define what kind of details you want or to define important parts inside the sillhouette.

And then you might arrive somewhere around here. But this is awful looking, D: I just slapped some preliminary details in there. Now one could go on with some overall colours and shading or just slack off and make all the details right.

I'm sorry for hogging your picture like this, but I thought it could be of some help. I'm a detail maniac myself and I know this can really be a great pointer.

So now go and surprise us all. I highly recommend you make a sillhouette or a stick figure and come back and show it to us. From there we can start giving you the kind of critique you'd like to hear :]

Do your best, I'll be rooting for ya.

Not  to clog the thread but I've got him laughing now.

I think now I'll just keep the opened-mouth frames and them make him shoot a laser beam or something...  :hehe:

I really like yours, only it seems a bit flickery at the top. FIXX. :0

I'd suggest that you try making the purple dirt around the dirt spot just a tad bit darker, see how it would look. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to your next update :]

If you're not afraid of adding one colour, I think one more skin color would be nice to AA between the line art and the shadow color on his torso, a bit like tremulant did it. Try to tweak the colouring and saturation AND contrast on the different skin tones and see what you can come up with :] I promise it'll do ya good.

Since his hips would be moving when his walking you might want to make the belt buckle move a bit. Or maybe you wouldn't. Otherwise, for good-looking walk animations, except for the arms and legs, you'd want to move the shoulders and the hips. The head bob/turn often looks weird since we humans want to keep our heads still and in one direction when we walk.

I'd also like to say that I really like how his cap bobs when he walks forward. You are great at manipulating the outlines and small pixels to get your effect through; I think it's very skillzored and also makes me think of how Samus is animated in super metroid.

Kudos :0

It really looks as if he's running, I suggest making this the basis for his running animation and make another more balanced one for his idle-pose. Contraposes are nice and should really (REALLY) be used more, but this one looks a bit too dynamic for it's purpose.

Because otherwise, dynamic is good :]

Far prefer the contrast in the first one to be honest.  Much more threatening looking and atmospheric.  The one on the right looks flattened and less three-dimensional...

Yup. Perhaps we are using brighter screens than Helm 0: That really changes the way a pic looks, really.
