Do ou have a PSP or a DS, ::Naso::? Those points look like rumors and the like running around the net without the proper context.
1) If this were true, the square button wouldn't be able to make a signal to the circuit board making it useless. Judging by how little attention I see given to it several months after the PSP launch, I feel this is hardly the problem some people would like to make it.
2)Heard this too, but it would only happen if you twisted it hard, which I don't see any sane person doing to a several hundered dollar piece of electronics.
3) I'm having a hard time finding any google searches on lockups, as my searches are being polluted by links to PSP hacking sites. If this is a serious issue, though, I would doubt that Sony could sell over 2.5 million PSPs worldwide if the lockups were even close to being regular.

And I take offense to calling the Nintendo(not GBA) DS a gimmick, as that would imply that it's various capablilities(dual screens, microphone, touchscreen, etc.) hold no useful purpose. A fact that would be contrary to several titles already out - Mario 64, Yoshi Touch 'N' Go, Kirby Canvas Curse, Feel The Magic, etc. - and many other titles on their way like Nintendogs, Mario & Luigi 2, Animal Crossing DS to name a very small few.

The next thing you'll want to do is shift the hues on your highlights and shadows. As a general rule, highlight hues should move towards yellow, while shadow hues move towards purple. This is more reflective of how lighting on real objects looks, albeit simplified to a great extent.

Also, his hip area is a little hard to make out still. I think it could help if you flat shaded his left leg with your darkest green, which should  make it clearer where the hip ends, and the leg begins.

Last thing that I would suggest is adding another highlight to the helmet. Right now, there isn't much that tells me that the helmet isn't made from the same material as his pants which brings down the piece.

I tried using lots of black and high contrasting colours. Replaced the three pixel border around tile with 1 pixel border. I also moved the head forward one pixel in my platform character, and added some slopes, a key and a new door. The key looks a tad crappy with the yellow outline, so I'll probably drop that. Aside from that, I think the colour of the tiles work a lot better now.

EDIT: fixed up the glow on the key

Careful, Godslayer, you wouldn't wish to upset the pixel God Lief. Seriously, it could get dangerous.

Good to hear from you Lief, I'm a little sad to hear I won't be seeing much of you or your great work over the next year. What kind of artwork are you doing for the contract? 2d or 3d? Do you know what platform?

.....

Uh, offtopic doesn't equal random, jerking-off  nonsense thread, I think?

Anyone here seen the recent mythbusters? For those who don't know of it, it's this show where they try to prove or disprove myths, urban legends, and the like.

Anyways, as it is shark week on dsicovery, MBs have decided to make sharks myths their theme for the show, a show which I can fully state, with absolutely no hyperbole, as being the peak of television entertainment. This very peak in question being a scene where one of the two hosts swims in shark infested water and PUNCHES any sharks that get near him to see if you can really scare away a shark by hitting it in the nose!!!! That's right, he FUCKING PUNCHES a shark in shark infested water while being surrounded by an additional 4-10 sharks. All the while being laughed at by the other fucking host who is swimming nearby in some sort of scuba suit thing.

It's absolutely the best thing you will ever see, and I recommend sitting your ass down, and watching, if you see this episode of MBs while flipping channels.

here's an update

No update on the mockup though. I'm haven't a lot of trouble coming up with a tile design that doesn't clash. Any suggestions here would be appreciated.

Yeah. I realize that. It's just that I think it ought to be the standard.  The ??? emoticon looks rediculous when viewed as plain text, and if I turn off smilies, I'll have to see ?-?-? all the time. -_-
Eh? The additional options when posting will only deactivate smilies for a single post, not everyones. I like that better since it allows the poster to use picture or text smilies at their own discretion.

Have any of you tried using one of the zooming extensions for firefox? I was testing it out in my thread, and I noticed that the post boxes in this forum system won't expand past the length of the screen. Maybe you guys will like it, but I kinda don't like it all that much as it limits the maximum amount of the picture you can look at and makes you have to use a scrollbar connected to a post to view the rest of the picture. It's not that big of a deal and would probably be easy to get used to, but I like how the phpbb system would expand the borders of the current post to meet the requirements of the picture(s) within it.

Actually, castlevania was pretty far from my mind when I was doing this. When I drew up that first tile I was trying to make something abstract and cartoonish so I just drew semi random squares representing light and dark areas. I kinda don't see how you would see those bricks as being realistic. I did make a more realistic tile at one point and it looks fairly different from the ones in  my mockup.

I get what you're saying about how the tiles clash stylistically with the prince, though. I'm going to take a closer look at him and try to figure out what would kind of shading, colours and details would make the tiles go better with him.

For his stance, to explain myself, I had been looking through this great little website/art resource a while ago, and wanted to try out this thing that was mentioned about curving the spine of your people to make their stances more interesting(http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm : It's almost 3/4 of the way down the page near the perspective stuff and after some b&w portraits of a girl.). Looking back and forth between them, I think my arm position might be exaggerating the effect more than I had intended, I'm gonna try and work the arm into a new position, like the one in the website, and see if that helps some. I'll fix the bottom of the shirt up too.

If kerchief = neck tie sort of thing, then yes it is a kerchief. If you zoom in and look near the collar, you should see a knot and also see how the green goes into the collar. I thought it would make for a nice little secondary animation during a walk cycle.

And about the height of the walls, I can easily make them taller if I want to. They're about 2 and a 1/2 tiles high at the moment and moving it to 3 tiles high would give about 10 pixels of space.

One last thing, I forgot to attach this in my first post. It's a reference for my pixel guy. http://images.google.ca/images?q=castlequest&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images click the second link on the page. I didn't use it as a direct reference on my pixels, I hadn't actually looked at the box art for a couple months now( which is why I forgot to attach it), but it's obvious from looking at my pixels that there's a pretty direct link between them. Sorry about that, I'll try not to forget any references again.

I'll have an update again when I've edited the arm and shirt. I'll also try and make some replacement tiles that go better with my guy.
