Pirate Challenge Sign-up post

This post serves as an introduction for the official Pirate Challenge, and as a space for you to sign up for the challenge. Signups will be kept open even after the challenge, so all you stragglers out there, feel free to sign up, someone will always need a partner!

1.0 - Description
1.1 - Date: Sept 19th – 9/19/05
1.2 - Time: As long as needed
1.3 - Size Restrictions: 180x145 : Template Provided to you ( right click, save-as to download )
1.4 - Color Restrictions: 18 or 32
1.5 - Style Restrictions
1.6 - Props
1.7 - Background
1.8 - Partners

1.0   – Description
This is the official Pixelopolis Pirate Challenge. The challenge will test users strengths in line-art, coloring, shading and scene creation. It will also force users to interact together to possibly create new friendships, or strengthen old ones.

1.1   – Date
We’ve chosen September 19th because it is annual pirate day.

1.2   – Time
The Event should hopefully run as long as needed for everyone to complete their work on their partner. Posting WIP’s is definitely encouraged in the WIP post of this activity, which is outlined in 1.8 of this document.

1.3   – Size Requirements
I’ve created a template which is 180x145, it has a border around it and a space at the bottom that MUST be used to come up with a creative name for your “pirate friend” and also so that you may place your signature if you’d like. The border color can be changed, but keep it dark in nature.

1.4   – Color Constraints
18 Colors no transparency if you are doing just a pirate, 32 colors if you want to fill the entire area, this is for your scene only, the template with bottom area has a 8 color restriction, and it would be preferred for you to use colors from your image in these areas to try and learn to conserve colors. You must use at least 6 colors in your picture.

1.5   – Style Restrictions
Once you have a partner, you must try and get to know them, feel for their style, look up some of their artwork, talk to them, see what they like, etc.. When creating your pirate you want to incorporate your partners traits into the picture. For example, Dogmeat is fond of dogs, so maybe your pirate for him would look like a dog! Other then that, use your imagination.

1.6   – Props
Your pirate has to have at least 1 prop, and an optional animal. Props consist of peg legs, eye patches, hook hands, scimitars, etc.. Animals would be like parrots, dogs, etc..

1.7   – Background
Background can be whatever you want, but you have to keep it in the theme of pirates and what not. Ships, beaches, digging up treasure, etc..

1.8 - Partners
Partners will be partnered together at random and a list will be compiled of all the people and their partners before the actual event starts.

The other rules are as follows:

HAVE FUN!!!!

Please keep this thread clean, only post if you are signing up, if you have a question, try looking at this post once more before asking. Thanks!

Pixel Art / Shiba Inu Pup - WIP
« on: September 09, 2005, 10:11:09 pm »
Just wanted to let everyone know I'm not dead! I've been working with my political partners to get some stuff going for you guys on the forums, anyway I've been playing with this off and on for a few days, it's a shiba inu pup. Shibas, for those of you who don't know are small dogs from Japan who are known for their amazing abilities to take down bears in the wild. As for having them as pets, if they run away, they don't come back.

anyway...

Pixel Art / Brand new from Dogmeat
« on: August 26, 2005, 11:37:43 pm »
Well, i have a new girlfriend, and with that, the inspiration to pixel her! ha! Anyway, I spent about a hour on this, I know there are issues, but i figured I'd throw it to the dogs for some crit, even if you don't see anything wrong with it, try and find something to crit anyway. When I used to work professionally, doing this stuff, my boss told me something that I'll never forget: "An artist is never done, there is always something to improve, you could work on a piece forever and tweaking gets you close to perfection". Or something like it. Anyway, here is the pic:

General Discussion / Dogmeat 05 Campaign Thread
« on: August 17, 2005, 09:21:03 pm »
Ok, I have to admit, this is kind of fun. I mentioned I would like to run in the off topic thread, but I thought I would start an official thread for my "running" in the peer representation thingie that Pep and his comrades have come up with.

Quoting myself from the OT thread:

Quote
" If anyone wants to nominate me that would be fine with me, I wouldn't mind doing a little above and beyond for pixelation. I'm a long time member of pixelation, save for my year break where I didn't even want to look at a pixel, but i'm getting back into it, finding my groove and am happy that everything is starting up again. The greatest thing about pixelation is the people, and once the steam starts building up theres no stopping the kettle from screaming some awesome stuff that we can do. IF you nominate me I would make it my top priority to work with Pep on getting some of the old "projects" back up and running, IE: the postcard project, I think if we can finish one of those and have a nice little process to creating something, printing it out and sending it to all our members that would be a great start. Hell, even if you don't nominate me, pep shoot me a message and maybe we can talk about these things? Anyway, thanks for your time. "

And i've even created a small little campaign "button" that people can tag into their signatures if you support me:

the URL is: http://www.mindcrank.com/port/dm05.png

Peppermint Pig also made some great little banners that you guys can stick in your sigs if you support me, they are:

http://virtual.dyc.edu/~peppermint/temporary/dogmeat_vote_03.png

Again, thanks for your support, I look forward to serving you if I am elected, and probably even if I'm not, just won't have as much pull if you get my meaning.

Pixel Art / *Group Project* The Disgruntled Vegetables and Fruits
« on: August 10, 2005, 12:33:35 am »
OK, so I started this thing long long ago on the old pixelation forums, back when pixelation was on swoo.net, hell I even remember bo the sucker getting involved. Basically we're practicing our pixeling skills by making simple vegetables and giving them humanoid features, oh and of course making them disgruntled! For those of you who don't know what "disgruntled" means: "to make ill-humored or discontented ". Basically mad, grumpy, etc.. Happy vegetables and fruits may be a different project.

NOTE: ANYONE CAN DO THIS!!!

The biggest problem we had with the first try of this was the fact that people didn't feel their skills up to snuff, that doesn't matter! Take a shot at something, post a WiP and get help on it. Some items will be challenging, like a shiny eggplant or maybe something as simple as a apple.

The requirements:
Must be Fruit or Vegetable
Must have a face with a disgruntled expression
Must be Bi-pedal ( 2 legs ) or a quadraped ( walks on all 4 )
Must be in Color
Must provide its name IE: The angry carrot, The enraged tomato, The disgruntled Fig, etc..
Must have fun!

Take all the time you want, ask for help, eat a donut, watch full house, I don't care, I miss stuff like this that was on the old pixelation, and on that note I submit the first entry.. The famous Mr. Disgruntled Broccoli!
