Pixel Art / [ WIP ] DEATHTRAP
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:10:57 am »
So I found this pixel on my hard drive today that I doodled about 6 months ago, it was extremely messy and the colors were experimental ( i'm not so good at choosing colors so I was trying different stuff ). Anyway, after working on this for a few hours I got it to a place where I think it can turn into a good pixel. I figured I'd do the usual and post it here for C&C or just show you guys my process.

Still pretty messy, but this is how I do my lineart, its more of messy blob art, then I go in for the kill and detail everything. The arm is supposed to be twisted around and sticking out of the narrow hole like the head but I can still see how it's off vs. the mouth size, I'll probably fix that next. Also trying to make the monster translucent so you can see the shilouette of the dude inside the monster.

Pixel Art / [WIP] - Pixeljointatar C&C Needed
« on: January 07, 2009, 11:24:55 pm »
Hey all,

I'm working on a group activity over at pixel joint. It involves a new type of avatar where the bg is a repeating animal pattern ( 3 color ):

And the foreground is an avatar of the artist (16 color ), I used arne's palette, or at least what I think is arne's:

This is also my current working file

Nevermind the orange bar at the bottom and the palette, thats my working area since I'm using only MSPAINT for now.

Also, I'm going to fix the bg once I finish working on the avatar.

Here are my WIP's along with the reference that I started using around WIP 3 or so.

As for my working file, I could use some tips on the finer aspects of the glasses, hair, etc.. I'm not really focused on the clothing just yet, but I'll take crits on that too.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / [WIP] BOBasaur
« on: November 20, 2008, 12:54:56 am »

This image was for a Pixeljoint challenge having to do with creating a pixel based on what we thought the B.O.B.'s name meant. I came up with the bobasaur.

This guy really needs a lot of work in my opinion. Most importantly, I think he could go for a new paint job, so I'll start with that. I also think the body looks a little like a hunchback, and he looks like he has a major underbite. These are the things I will work on first. I'm really bad with choosing colors, I feel like I get lucky sometimes when choosing a palette but generally I fail with this. I will really try to come up with a good palette, but if anyone has any suggestions, I am more than welcome. And feel free to grind me on the C&C, the only way to grow is to listen and learn  :blind:

Update: This is the direction i'm taking him in:

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#001 - Red Dragon - Dither
« on: November 17, 2008, 09:52:19 pm »
Original from about a year ago:

Updates in sequencial order:

I started working on this about a year ago and have since not touched it, actually, I worked on it on saturday but one of my HD's crashed and I am not going to be able to retrieve my updates easily so I grabbed this one from  my website and am going to work on it vigorously, hopefully, with some good ol' C&C pixelation style.

In my newer version I had fleshed out the face a lot more, gave the eye a rounded feel and worked on the wing a little bit. I know this needs a lot of work but I want it to be absolutely perfect and polished.

Thanks, and its good to be back.

EDIT: added all the other wips, including the one where I pixeled a little boy with a teddy bear, which won't be in the final :)

So as far back as I can remember, the people of pixelation seem to be obsessed with the C64, palettes, pixel art having to do with, etc..

I really don't get the obsession.

Sure, I also had one, and a tandy, and an atari, etc.. But even when I think of using any of those devices, just the thought of it makes me feel bored.

I really just want to understand this obsession. What do you like the most about the C64? What about it makes some of you so obsessed?

General Discussion / Beginner Palettes - Workshop
« on: November 07, 2006, 09:10:18 pm »
I think it would be nice for some of the new folks ( to pixel art that is ) to have something that they can use to get started with. I personally think choosing a good palette is one of the most difficult things to do, but that's just me. Everyone has a strong suit when it comes to pixel art, but choosing colors seems to be very difficult for most and they end up stealing from other peoples palettes, which is fine, because most of the time people take responsibility for doing so.

So heres what I propose to you palette masters out there:

- Pick or come up with a few simple palettes
- Describe some of the things the palettes can be used for
- Explain how each color should be used within the palette, this color is for blending this color, this color is a highlight color, etc..
- For extra credit provide a sample image demonstrating what was described about the Palette

This is a free for all ladies, but in the end I want a good set of "beginner" palettes that we can put on a page somewhere and keep as a resource for new people.

I know I'm a dick sometimes, and I applogize, really, but this is business..

Who's with me?

It's always been hard for me to do art themed off my name but it's good practice. Took me about 2 hours.
