Pixel Art / Re: Game Art [Just a Plant]

Hey, I didn't mean to discourage you, quite opposite - plants are fairely simple thing to draw. A few things to consider - fight a brain which naturally  tends to put everything in order, in symmetry, apply things uniformly.  Plants are rarely like that. =)

I've pulled palette from project i'm working on, it is a bit dull, but in you sample all tones are saturated and fighting for attention, i would say keep saturated colors for that part of leaves which hit with a light and keep shadows less saturated. I don't know much about theory, but it might be  true for straight color ramp. Perhaps all saturated might work just as good in shifted ramp. Adarias has quite nice examples in his thread.

You do have darker tones in your palette, why don't you use it to add some contrast in it?

Shading will depend on how clear you see your object 3dimentionaly - try to draw with pencil different views of knife to find out what is round, what is flat, how round parts connect to flat ones, where are cavities and where are bumps etc. I know that is meant to be a palette practice, but to me all these things are related - you should figure your volumes to determine  shades you apply.

I think back view char arms are short, elbow is usually on a same line with a waist, something wrong with a head too... Maybe to move far foot one pixel to the left to balance figure.

Suggestions.=)

I think you should figure how to describe you volumes with colors, well, unless you want it to be just a colorful something.
May be a little example, perhaps just the way I see it and you may have something different in mind.
