Yeah, I know there's a lot of dithering. Without dithering, I think the highlights are too strong on my face D: Should I just swap colors and remove the dithering?

Also about the hair, I believe I can make it better, the highlight color jumps way too far from the previous two colors D:

The best way to start, its to just jump right in. You joined a very helpful community newobj, I'm sure you will learn a lot. Taking a look at the stickies is sure to help you as well.

I am a programmer myself (not advanced imo), and I'm also a beginner in Pixel art. I've been learning by taking a look at pixeljoint.com trying some of the things I see, then posting here for help. I rarely post here because I usually give up in frustration over the piece I am working on, this may happen to you as well, but you have to be strong :)

Still going at this. I blobbed the rocks out this time. I used Indigo's colors this time since mine were simply not working :(

They look much better IMO D:

I've brightened them and started adding more.. I think a main issue with mine is that they have round edges, and Indigo's have straight edges.

EDIT: More rocks... Mine feel artificial in comparison to Indigo's...

I looked at Indigo's gift in the gifts get topic and I truly love how he did the rocks. I am now trying to learn how he created them.

At the top left, you can see my very crappy attempt at a rock. I think I am missing out on how he structures them, and how he uses the colors. I counted around 9 colors per rock. How do you guys think I'm doing? Also, are my colors usable? I think I need more contrast between them (I did not take the colors from indigo although they look very similar)

Indigo: Hope you don't mind D:

Obviously a very unfinished update, however progress...

I can still see a lot of faults that need fixing up and a lot of cleanup pixel work.  However feel free to comment.
(Ignore the start of upper body)

Something that has been bugging me from the start is that the eyes seem like they're blurred :/

You should try to make them stand out a bit more.
