Hi. My level in pixel art is low so I can not help you with advice, just mostly minor viewer's comments.

The head and t-shirt look very nice. The rest seem to be still in various WIP stages but those that are more worked on seem nice for now to my untrained eye.

As for the issues I think exist:

Right side, fourth finger ( top to bottom ) seems a bit thin and sharp compared to the other fingers.

I can see that the left side is on a rougher stage of WIP, but the pinky seems unnatural. It seems to be sprouting on top of the other finger's starting location. I tried various hand poses, but no matter the perspective, the finger did not look like that, nor could I bend it that way. It might be just my own hand or my lack of strong anatomy knowledge though.

Hope it helped somewhat.

Thanks pebblesage, I'll keep your comments in mind when I polish up the hands / arms. I also changed the edge of his 5 o'clock to be less harsh and brought up the moustache edge a bit:

Hi

I'm working on this new piece (still very much WIP), which I also posted over Pixel Joint, but I think perhaps I can get some more strict C&C here. Don't need to hold back at all - please feel free to rip into any issues. For this pic I am focusing on improving my clusters, but I'd very much appreciate advice on anything from general composition to anatomy or the rendering of cloth etc.

The image itself:

Awesome work pistachio!

Is there a community specific to this kind of "lowpoly combined with pixel art" style or am I in the right place? I'm really looking into getting better at it.

Polycount might be a better bet because this forum is very inactive, but if you do interesting stuff people will come to help you, as this is the place with the most concentrated amount of pixel artists who also do 3d, maybe. But I don't really think pixel art needs to be held to as high a standard as 2d pieces when its used as a texture, so I wouldn't put too much excess worry on that. Can't really say for sure about Polycount because I don't go there, but take a look.

Polycount has a low-poly section where you'll often find models with pixel art textures.
http://polycount.com/discussion/41232/lowpoly-sub-1000-triangle-models/p278

There is a guy there who goes by tennis who does pixel art textures exclusively so he might have some creations that suit you.

Thanks for the replies and advice! I've heard of that Kenneth Fejer guy; I just bookmarked kennethfejer.com only a few days ago! Small world. He is amazing and so good at what he does. If polycount is where he hangs out then I'll definitely go there in the hope that I can learn something from him. Thanks again!

Apologies for the necro but this seemed like the most relevant thread.
I missed out on SS this time so here's something for Alcopop.

Based off of this, other 2 are in the works but I figured I'd submit this as a humble New Years gift.

Still some issues to be cleaned up but I hope you enjoy :y:

I really like this! I remember seeing the original on pixeljoint a while ago. You've captured the expression in the face as well as the overall feel of the picture really well. Any chance of seeing it in an interesting pose?

Pixel Art / Re: Trying pixel art again ... C+C Plz! :)

... it's late and I'm tired! :blind: I did a mock-up of a background but it sucks. I going to throw it away but considering I spent the time drawing it I might as well post it.

Rocks are harder than I though!

I'll go to sleep now and I'll do a proper job tomorrow. I can already see so many mistakes that I didn't notice before!

Preeeeteh shiny :/

Mabye tone down the shine on it. (Less contrast?)

It looks AMAZING though, I love it :D

By shine do you mean the specular highlights on the shell? Or on the fleshy bit of the snail? Or both!? lol
I want to get the wet slimy texture of the snail down, but he (she?) ended up being one gooey blob, and it's lost the slimy scaly texture of the original image. I wonder how I could replicate that sort of texture with the resolution I'm working with?

Anyway, I fixed the shell a bit:

I've highlighted exactly what I've changed here:

The shape of the shell looked a bit funny after looking at it again.

Any suggestions on the flesh texture would be very much appreciated - I'm wondering where I should go from here. Later on I'll get rid of the back outlines more, and I want to do some AA on the shell. Tried it a seconds ago but just made it blurry so I'm going to do more homework on how to do AA first!!

Pixel Art / Trying pixel art again ... C+C Plz! :)

Hello!!

I've decided to try to get into pixel art again. I never stuck at it long enough to get very good by here is my attempt after an hour or so:

It came out better than I though it would, I am esp. happy with the shell.
It's roughly based on this:
http://www.naturephoto-cz.com/photos/others/roman-snail-21973.jpg
I've obviously simplified it because the original photo has two light sources but I didn't want to make things too complicated for myself.

Anyway, brutal C+C please! I don't get offended so give me hell!  ;D

General Discussion / Re: 3d vs 2d Myth (or is it?)

Isn't art just as much about visualising an image in your head, and understanding it's shape in 3D, as it is about the actual drawing?

Although making 3D models and painting an oil painting probably require completely different sets of skills to actually get the art from your brain to the page [screen], everything that goes on in your mind (concept, understanding shapes, colours, etc) is probably quite similar.

So IMO there might be a fair bit of overlap.

General Discussion / Brutal, not-for-pansies C+C for 3D art

Hi people,

This site is really good for brutally honest C+C. But what about art work other than pixels?

I read this site (and pixeljoint) every day, but I've been slacking of on posting any pixel art because I've been busy making a game which I'm going to release for free. I'm making the whole game myself, (except the music & sound) and I don't want it to be filled with crappy "programmer art" - which means I need critique on the 3D models/textures I'm making.

Does anyone know where the best 3D C+C forum is? I was looking for a place where the members give really good C+C like the members of this forum do.

Thank you!
