Pixel Art / Re: Breakfast Logo
« on: May 20, 2010, 02:23:57 am »
This wasn't going to be the official logo or anything, it was just a simple assignment. Most students are just using clip art from the internet as the logo (Fact: Using clip art for a logo is 100% fine as long as you trace over it yourself. This teacher is crazy) I don't have anything against using vector, I've already done quite a few assignments in vector already. This was just a quick sketch, which was later going to be done in vector. Now it's just some personal project I'm playing around with, though I should probably start working on that landscape I started a while back again, heh.

I wasn't really paying much attention to color since it's going to be printed out in black and white,  but you're totally right. Too bad I always have huge problems with color. Are the colors more eye catching this time around?

Edit:

Text illegible?

Pixel Art / Breakfast Logo
« on: May 18, 2010, 06:14:27 pm »

So, we're doing an assignment in my Graphic Arts class and I have to make a new logo for Bay Breakfast (An event that's hosted by local schools here) and after a few minutes I came up with this.  I'm quite aware that the cup looks horrible right now, I'm planning on making it sleeker, and less blocky. So, besides the cup do you guys have any suggestions on making this logo more appealing. And yes I know logo's should be done in vector, but oh well.

Make better use of your colors, you have tons of colors but you're hardly using them.

Here's a crude edit, but hopefully you get the point.

Man, this looks great! I can't give any critiques myself, but I do have a question. What exactly is the thing in the upper left corner suppose to be? At first I thought it was a mini map, but that doesn't make any sense. Is it the logo or something?

The bat doesn't look like a telescope to me, but perhaps adding a wider bottom like this will make it more akin to a bat. Anyway good work on these icons they look great.

As you can see it's not lined up, moving it up a pixel would make your windows straight horizontally. Maybe your eyes are playing tricks, that or I'm missing what you're tying to explain.

The row on the right is not lined up properly, try moving the top window up a pixel then it'll look straight. Did you just eyeball this? A good practice is to draw in horizontal guidelines, you'll see what you're doing wrong and it'll make life easier for you. =D

I made a few edits to my landscape but I don't have the file on my current computer, so in the meantime you can give me some pointers on this tree I did for practice.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Landscape [C+C]
« on: April 17, 2010, 05:15:51 am »

Okay, so recently we started doing landscapes in my art class, and considering I've never done one in pixel art (or in any other form :P) I thought it would be a fun challenge.
After about a hour, this is what I came up with. I'm aware that the left side of the mountains are atrocious right now, but I think I'm starting to get a hand of them. Anyway, critiquing is appreciated.

Edit: Tried doing grass, failed. Any tips?
Also I haven't changed the palette because there's no quick way to do it on paint :P I'll get around to it eventually I've just been doing most of this at school in my spare time.
