So not only did I make more bushes...I made 2 flower tiles.  :D I hope that it doesn't look too retarded...I don't want to start ruining it :o However, keep in mind that I my tiles will NOT be this close together...this is just to see what it looks like.
So here's a map:

And here are my tiles:

I'm not wanting to double post, so here's another update.
Map:
Tiles:
I added some rocks and rearranged the flowers. It's finally starting to come together.

Thanks for the advice! I tried a 32x32 and that tutorial....and I think it looks greatly improved!
Here's a map:
And here are my tiles:
I think it still looks a little bit tiled, but it's not nearly as bad and it looks more diagonal. Kidfrommars: Thanks for pointing out those strands. They were totally killing it. And Jakerpot, I did only use one 32x32 tile this time, as you can see. I think that's much better. I tried to make tings look more natural, but patterns are hard not to repeat    :P
Anyway! Further C&C, advice?

Thanks all so much for your input! I took a closer look at those tutorials than i had before and I realized that I think I was using too much highlighting and such, and I think you're right, Jakerpot, a larger tile might be better. Sorry about the .jpg..I saved it .png but it uploaded funky. I thought about just having plain green with some tiles that have interest, but I want to see if this will work out, I like how it's going. Rest assured my entire game won't be just grass...I'll be adding in roads and flowers and rocks and cliffs at some point, but I just wanted to get this basic piece down before I started on new things. Anyway, here are the new tiles:

And a map with character:

So I changed up the grass a bit more and added another flower tile.
Here are the tiles:

And here's them in a map with the character:

It still looks tiled  :-\ I tried to make them less uniform and mix up the placement of the leaves but I don't think it worked as well as I'd hoped.

Not to double post but I've been trying to edit my walking guy so we can finally get his animation right *crosses fingers* but now i'm running into a problem. I was able to do the north and south walking animations with 5 frames...it's taking me 10 to get a good side view...or 8 and it looks kind of choppy.
10 frames:
8 frames:
10 frames is still a little jerky but less so I think. So I guess I'm asking 2 things:
Is there a good way to make it less choppy?
And is 10 frames excessive/could or should I do it in 8 instead?
Thanks!

Oh I just didn't want to make the grass too busy, but I guess another flower tile might be in order. I'll try moving things around to see if it looks any better...Thanks!

Hahah that was in fact the tutorial I was looking at! It's not what I'm using for sure, but I'm trying to get the hang of it. I used two 16x16 tiles and put them into a 32x32 tile, to make it one big tile with two different tiles (the ones that are the same are diagonal from each other)...but it still turned out tile-y. Soooooooooo yeah. I might try making another one but I don't want it to look out of place either  ;) I used mappy to make that tile, so I knew it looked tile-y, but I tried what that tutorial said and it didn't seem to alleviate the problem all that much, so I came here! :D We'll try again and post an update in the morning...for now, any further C&C would be much appreciated, and I'm off to bed!

As I'm still continuing with my runner, this is mostly just a practice tile, but I'm starting to work on terrain, and here's my first grass tile  :D
Grass:
Sooo it still looks pretty tiled. But! I like the main grass style! C&C please!

That was my bad on the white pixels...apparently graphics gale thought I was using a transparency color, so they weren't showing up. Weird. So I fixed that problem, and the belt I'd meant to do but it kind of slipped my mind when I realized he looked like he was dancing instead of running  :-[ However! I fixed the belt to be the same color as my other animations, and took your advice on the gradiant-ness. Also, I tried to edit the hair to make it look like it's moving. I'm not quite sure I'm completely satisfied, but it's certainly a step in the right direction I think!  ;D
