trying to make a bit more cartoony character with a very neutral desaturated pallet.

You claimed to use a reference. This mean you used it as a reference, that is you drew an image based on it.
The "reference" isn't even your actual source for the colour reduction. You are implying you actually did some work to create the base image.
If you aren't being deceptive you'd best delete all your colour reductions from your Pixel Joint account then as you know that isn't allowed.
Thank you all for the great advice! I added more contrast and worked on the shading, i fixed the proportions, made the head smaller and added more SWOOSH!lacks depth try adding an outline "not black thou"

As for color choices, old dirty bones tend to get stained more of a yellowish color, like here:
