Awesome, glad I could help you figure it out. Happy pixeling!  :y:

I compared my settings to yours and they look the same aside from your brush spacing being off. That did cause some weirdness with my brush when I turned it off but I wasn't able to produce the same results as you.

I did some searching and found only one person with the same issue as you. Some things you may want to try are resetting your brushes OR replacing your brush set with the Basic Brushes set, resetting the pencil tool by right clicking on it, or making sure View>Pixel Aspect Ratio is set to Square (you can also edit this setting when you're creating a new document).

My guess is that the Pixel Aspect Ratio is the problem considering that your document window title says [scaled].

Hmm, your brush and viewport settings don’t seem to be the issue. It’s possible that the problem is being caused by your grid snapping settings. Is View>Snap To>Grid or View>Snap To>Guides on by any chance? If not, perhaps it’s something that can be fixed within Edit>Preferences>Units & Rulers?

Could you show a screenshot of what it looks like when you try to draw, and your brush settings? I’m wondering if your issue is coming from the tool you’re drawing with, some sort of grid snapping, or if it might be a viewport issue.

General Discussion / Re: Help - where should I pixel ?

If you’re overwhelmed by the options, I suggest trying each program as they all have different things to offer and many of them are free or inexpensive. I switch between programs myself depending on what I’m doing: Photoshop for general static pixeling since I’m comfortable with the program, Pyxel Edit for tiles because it has tools that make creating tilesets easy, GraphicsGale or Aseprite for animation.

I won’t go through all the options since the thread eishiya linked already did, but ultimately, programs are just tools and there’s not really a “one size fits all” solution; just use whichever program you feel comfortable working in that has the tools you require.

General Discussion / Re: What software do most pixel artists use?

Personally, I'm using Photoshop for most of my work, mainly because I'm doing a mix of projects and I need the flexibility.  I've been using GIMP for teaching and have written it into my curriculum.  Regarding GraphicsGale, though, how does it stack up?  I chose GIMP because it's freeware/open source and relatively lean, and I work mostly in communities with dodgy or limited internet.  However, GIMP's kind of clunky, and we've had to write a batch script to import pixel art settings after installation, because no kid wants to sit through 20 minutes of tweaking tool options.  Thoughts?

I’ve always found GIMP a bit clunky. The best program for teaching depends on your needs and budget. If you’re doing animation, then GraphicsGale may be your best free option, though the UI can be confusing for people who are used to Photoshop. Aseprite may be better if you have a small budget or know how to compile it. If you just need a program that’s free, lightweight, easy to install, and can do static pixel art then I recommend the old version of Pyxel Edit. The UI is very similar to Photoshop and it has all the basic features you’d need. I use it on lab computers because it doesn’t require administrator access to install (you can just run the executable).

Pixel Art / MOVED: Help - where should I pixel ?

now that helm's helming the site, do you think we can get blanket bans for india and russia? This spam problem has exceeded its stay quite a bit.
Pixelation has many Russian users, and spammers probably use VPNs anyway :/
I know the original post about it wasn’t serious, but you’re right, blanket bans don’t really stop spammers. Even if you were to ban all IPs from certain regions or all emails with certain extensions (like .ru), spammers will use proxies and emails that aren’t blocked. This is why some forums moderate new users’ posts. Other than that, reporting posts of spammers is always helpful since we can mass ban and delete their posts.
