Try enlarging/expanding the yellow and orange sections  in one or two of the frames to give a psuedo rise and movement. 3 frames is pretty limited but there are always paths around the limitations. Complete movement isn't necessary.

Whoa the left arm (our right) looks very uncomfortable. Try having the elbow still touching the arm and te hand and weapon being only slightly away from the side of the chair. Alternatively try laying the spear across the chair gripped by his left and pointed upward and above his right hand. This gives him the appearance that he is willing and able to defend or attack from his seated position.

Looks more like a tribal god to me. In fact I'd love to see this in an amazon ruin. Your lineart is already much better, but his six pack is a bit high up.
Take your time, you will be rewarded in the end. (this comming from me... hmmm)

Relax the shoulders themselves and make the elbows touch the arms of the chair, as right now the arm chairs look very far away from his body. The arms of the character himself look straight. Try sitting in an arm chair and see how your arms rest.
The knees need to be less rounded I think. Not sure how to explain.
The Spikes are definately improved however you have jaggies as Lotek stated. remember to use decendin patterns like: 8-6-4-3-2-1
never: 8-6-4-5-2-3-2-1-1

Oh and tilt the feet slightly outward, rarely ever do they sit flat and straight on.

Lets start with light source. Where do you want the light source to come from? Lets just say top left with forward tilt because that's the typical standard. (don't know why it just is)

Try to imagine where the tree will bulge in and out. The underneath of such a clump of leaves is more than likely going to be shadow. Taking a quick look at what you have I would instantly remove the shadow that points up on the left of the foliage. Also dark and light can go right to the edge, it doesn't need to have an outline, although some people do like it so and others strongly dislike it.
Play around with the shadows and the shapes of such and when you've created something you like have a go at dithering it to help bring out a leaf-like texture.

@quaz- actually I personally found doing big images to start off with to be better. It helped me learn shapes, shading and dithering techniques especially when retricting the pallet. Big piecs are good to learn from as they require more to edit but they are easy to see what eeds to be edited. That's my personal oppinion. However it's usually better to do so with a referance and I get the feeling ven doesn't have such.
First off considering the view point of the chair the guys knees should go up and cover part of his waist line for visibility. The shoulder pads (argh I hate shoulder pads) look way too pointy, curve it a bit at the end. The chair's spikes are a bit ugly. The bottom one is good but the form of the thers are horrid. What programme are you using? If your using Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, try selecting said spike and duplicating it.  Then try rotating and minimising slightly to get the idea of the shapes for the others and redrawn with the lines as an example. (when you rotate it will more than likely become blurred unless you're a weird arse like me who creates their line art as vector selections)

also what s with the rib/hip flab?

Not too much to comment on, there is no shading at all.
However I can say you need to change your trunk. Th thick part of the trunk should enter into the canopy as right now the entire foliage looks to be supported by three stick like branches.

Take a look at the other tree threads (theres a few) and observe what the do right and wrong. Observation is a very powerful skill.

Hello everybody my name is Jak Gem aka Ultimaodin. You can call me Ulti if you like. (everyone does)
I've been gtting into using a programme known as RMXP and I am wanting to learn more about pixeling and give an attempt at making my own tileset.

I've only just begun attempting pixel art and I have a horrible habit of not finishing things but hopefully I can go through with this.
I've noticed this place seems to be very helpful so I decided to register.

I am a straight out honest bloke and I often come off harsh but I always try to be helpful... though in this case I will be the one in help.
Once upon a time I wanted to be a graphic designer and animator but these days I'm just trying to get out of coles. ;D

Anyway it's Good to meet you all!

Ps I'm an Ozzie so if I type weird... yeah.

Hello, nice to meet you. Well I ain't a professional at pixel art, in fact this is my first post, however I have been observing for quite some time.

I tried what I thought it should look like. Now that I look at it I think the hat should have more of a slight curve in the lighting.
Anyway:

Alright for the top hat I adjusted the light source slightly so it wasn't a straight line down and gave it some dithering.
On the moustache I altered it completely thinking of the light source comming from the left. I imagined how it would bulge in and out and lighted the sections I imained would catch the light from a said angle.
I did the same with the nose as well as altered the glasses.

Before you take example of what I did you should probably wait for someone else to comment on what I did as I may be wrong.
