General Discussion / Pixelation meet-up during GDC, 2013
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:10:42 am »
Since the old thread is gone after the great server purge of March...

Hey guys!

Me and Jad (aka Bomb boy) were thinking of hosting a Pixelation meet up during GDC this year. I'm sure a bunch of familiar faces will be in San Francisco around that time, like AdamAtomic, snake, Inidigo and such, so we think it would be awesome if we could get together, have a few drinks and ponder the importance of clusters, dots and Yus birds. Nudity is optional.

We'd probably have it at some nice bar downtown, or perhaps Jad's hotel room if he was serious about that.

Anyone up for this?

Pixel Art / Demake dump
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:28:28 am »
Here are a bunch of demake mockups that I've made for swedish gaming mag Level over the last years. Many of these were made quick and dirty (relatively speaking) in order to make deadlines, so they're not all that pretty to look at. But I figured I should post them somewhere so they don't just gather dust on my hard drive. Any feedback is of course appreciated.

Pixel Art / Remake of an old pixel piece
« on: May 17, 2010, 02:54:56 am »

Made this today as a remake of the oldest piece of pixel art I could find, namely this little thing from June 2006. I think it was made right before I registered here actually.
I took some liberties in fleshing it out here and there. And yes, those guards are indeed carrying tiny little hammers.

Pixel Art / Dylan Dog - WIP
« on: March 16, 2010, 10:26:30 am »
I'm posting this ancient thing from the back of my hard drive in order to publicly shame myself into finishing it, and maybe get some pointers while I'm at it. Sounds reasonable, right?

It's a point 'n click adventure game mock-up based on one of my favorite comics, Dylan Dog.

Pixel Art / Brave Guy vs Drill Crew

Decided to finish off this doodle I've had in a folder at work for the past six months or so. Nothing much to say about it really, it's just stupid, saturated fun. High color count due to the gradient in the background. Have at it!

Update:

Pixel Art / Last Ninja 2
« on: May 02, 2007, 08:57:11 am »
A GBA remake mock up, made just for fun, since all the cool kids seem to be doing it!
I made this mainly because it was a great excuse to pixel some polka-striped marquees.

I think there's about a bazilion colors in it if anyone is curious. Didn't really keep count.

Also, here's a dancing cowboy.

Sorry about the 2x.  :(

General Discussion / Force Majeure - Indie shmup demo
« on: February 01, 2007, 06:15:07 pm »
Here's a game that me and two other fellows (Surasshu and fsFreak) have been working on as an entry to Autofire 2007, a game making competition hosted over at shmup-dev.com.

We released the demo last night so if you've got the time, feel free to download it right here (11 mb).

Feedback is, as always, much appreciated!

Pixel Art / Platform sprites
« on: October 18, 2006, 02:42:08 am »
Final edit:

Re-did the background once again and this is where I ended up. It's kinda repetitive since I've re-used the same tile all over the place, but at least it looks cosier than the previous ones.

Edit:

Okay, here are some updated stuff.

I had an idea for the original BG, but I wasn't able to create what I had envisioned, so I'll just leave it be and give it another shot later on. I started making a more traditional (boring?) BG instead, still a WIP.

Here's the updated slash with some added critter carnage, and the walk cycle, etc. without sparks.

Original post:

I'm making some graphics for a music game song in the style of a platform game (the music game is called Click Beat, check it out!).

Here's the main character, a.. uh... bearmonkeyrabbit?

    Walk          Slash          Mixed

A background that I'm gonna redo (you can probably see why).

(Yes, grass produces sparks, didn't you know?)

Anyway, I'd love to get some feedback, especially on the animations!

Pixel Art / Cavegirl mock up
« on: August 17, 2006, 03:41:17 pm »
And here we go again... The baisc idea here was something like "What if Capcom made a game inspired by Frank Frazetta's paintings?"

The result is "Cavegirl - The Game" (at least according to the folder on my HD). The player's objective is to guide Cavegirl and all her animal friends out of, uh, Misty Valley, since the smoking "Fire Mountain" is a sure sign of impending doom. However, dinosaurs, neanderthals and other sub-human bad guys will make it a difficult task to accomplish...

Mock Up

In this particular mock up Cavegirl is being assisted by a sabertooth tiger.

Stuff

Here's Cavegirls sluggish neanderthal stride. It's a bit wonky, but whatever. My main focus with this (besides actually animating a sprite this big, wich I've never done before) was to make it look like her leg muscles actually are working. Topless version available on request.  ;D

Here's the sabertooth tiger (nicknamed Fang, to keep in with the "originality" of all this nonsense). I made this in like 30 minutes but I'm still quite satisfied with it. I might try animating it, if I can build up the courage.

Last and least, the background. It's a mix between pixels, color-reduced CG and a few things from previous pieces. Just a heads-up for all your purists.

Pixel Art / Swashbuckler mock-up
« on: August 08, 2006, 12:16:59 am »
D'Arrr! This sure took me a while. My idea was to create a mock-up screen of a long forgotten pirate-themed beat em up from the early 90's ("Look what I just found in mame!"). I know that it looks kinda busy. I basically just made a bunch of sprites at first, wich I then jammed into a single-screen BG.

Anyway, I'm not here to make excuses, so please feel free to tear it apart!  :D

Also, while I know this isn't General Discussion I thought I'd take the opportunity to ask a question: What type of pixel art do you think my portfolio needs to increase my chances of actually landing a job?
