2D & 3D / Re: Tutorials?
« on: June 28, 2009, 06:16:02 pm »
Just wanted to bump with question/s, since this looks like a good thread to ask.

I've been trying to read on it online, but everything's so technical or vague or both that I can't wrap my head around the concept/s: what, in layman's terms are diffuse maps, specular maps, bump maps, etc? And what are the differences? how are they different from texture maps?

Thanks for any reply, I've got the modelling basics down, and texturing too, I think. I just scratch my head when these terms pop up. :)

Probably to make the mountains and the astronaut taller.

But yeah, mixing bittage=no.

First off, note that ripping is not received well on this forum, it just gets that way when you've got a lot of people who know how hard it is to work on something and then just have it filched. As artists, ripped art is a big thing. Look at it this way; how would you feel if someone took a game you worked hard on and then just put their own graphics without asking? Yeah.

Next, onto the graphics.

The graphics you actually made are ok, but they don't match the "stolen" mountains. The detail on the mountains just screams for craters and bumps and whatnot. The earth is not terrible, but the blur effect does not work.

You probably feel wronged, along the lines of "I just wanted to show a game, and I get this crap, what the hell!!", but try to see it from an art forum's viewpoint.

Yeah, the animation preview is something you learn to love pretty fast.

Didn't know about the shortcuts though! Thanks.

Pixel Art / Re: Run Cycle, Help appriciated.

Being someone who sucks at run animations myself, I've studied some videos, and I think why this(the side view one) looks like power walking instead of running is because of the kick it has at the end. That's more for walking, not running. When running, your feet seldom go / but more < , if you know what I mean.

The arms also are more suited to walking. When running, your arms are usually at an angle, never spread out, because that could indicate being relaxed, and therefore better suited to walking.

And yes, I was running back and forth to the kitchen while typing this.  :D

Coming along nicely.

Yeah, copied the sprites into GGale from MSPaint and tried to align them but had a hard time. I can't get used to the interface. :ouch:
The aim of the project is to finish a sheet within one week. Just seeing if I could do it. So the run is three frames and the attacking is one frame.

Agh

Found an old one!

Made a few weeks after joining Pixeltendo and Pixelopolis.
Contrast was a mystery word.

But it turns out I never made muscle babies! Hoorah!

I think what he means is you can make a mockup of anything, if you like. No one's really stopping you. :D

I have an idea for a Challenge; "Games you will never EVER get to see",
