Wow! That's an awesome edit. I've been staring at my version for so long it just looked right to me, but now I see see how washed out it is  :-[

Here's what I've come up with:


- Gave the piece more more depth and saturation à la the edit.
- Made the tree bigger

Question: is the mountain too detailed the way I have it now? In some refs I've looked at, mountains are very detailed even at a distance, but others not so much.

The prototype looks pretty good  :y:

The way each frame is timed adds a feeling of weight to the character. Though, on the side view animations, I wonder if the legs goes too far back?

Some crits:

The right side of his right leg and hip-area needs more contrast (i.e. darker).
The edge of the right side of his coat (the edge that is nearest to his belt) should be highlighted.

Overall, you should study the reference for how light and dark wraps around each 'form'. I see that your lines stays pretty true to the ref, but the 3d forms in your image do not.

I don't think it blends better: it goes from yellow > red > black > red. Physically, it doesn't really make much sense either.

Cool explosion and fonts!

About the turning: when he switches between front and left views, it looks like he is only turning his torso (though it seems to be an illusion.) Maybe emphasize his left foot turn?

His midsection is a little blurry (the 2px line defining his abs is causing banding).
