So I tried another hand at my walk animation. This time with a fleshed out character. I have gotten a better handle on the leg movements but something about the characters left arm isn't working for me. Also how can I slow down the walk and have it still look natural?

I think I'll also try to lower the character with every landing like the above suggestion.

Pixel Art / First time animating a walk cycle - help!

I'm putting together a base for a character that I want to animate but boy am I having trouble getting the walk right.
What is throwing me off so much? Something about this isn't clicking into place for me. I've been looking at so many references and I still can't seem to get the walk right after so many iterations. Help!

Thank you so much!
I will work on my colors more.
I really like the greenish version you did - but just to clarify I was trying to do a sprite version of this:

Good advice nevertheless since I still don't think I quite captured the pose.

I got discouraged last time I tried to make pixel art, but I'm trying to get more comfortable.
Some attempts:
Tips?

I have a really hard time knowing what canvas size to pick for the level of detail I want and so half the time I feel like i'm not able to get what I want.

Hi Glisean!

I like it.  :y:

The inside tree flesh tends to be lighter colors than the outside part of the tree.
I also made your lights lighter and darker darker overall:

Looks so much better!

Looking back it was a little premature. Sorry if it seemed rude.

But also speaks to problems with presentation. If you're looking to show it off it's cool, if you're looking to iron out technical issues (which is always good in the realm of CG), some wireframes or an AO render is better. If possible I want to see that to be sure.

If the mesh is clean, the triangles are most likely rendering artifacts then. But what you do have can still describe more the anatomy of chicks, esp. the legs and flow around the head.

Something like this:

Very very rough and this topology will not check out on a real mesh. Just flow and (bad) anatomy example.

I was just showing it off but it's fine, I'm still learning.

Also I intentionally left out the wings and the other parts of the anatomy, (I was just aiming for them to look like flat little blobs). But I am concerned with the way its rendering. The flow seemed fine when I checked the faces, but I am getting those artifacts.

You should also ignore the bird on the far right, as I just copied over the original model and sloppily rotated part of it so that's why it looks so wonky.
