General Discussion / Re: Animation books?

i uhh... borrowed.. the collection of dvd's, and from a first glance, the whole series of them is quite interesting.  theres animations strung together, quick explinations, lectures, and lessions for every type of animation you can imagine.
i don't know if its worth 900 bucks, but i can tell theres a ton of good information in the series.

Pixel Art / $100 Game!
« on: June 15, 2009, 01:29:07 am »
im skinning the game in this topic here ->
its for $100 so i want this to look as good as it can.

heres my demo so far ->

and heres a screenshot for those of you who are to lazy to click.

to do list:
- change glow on the tiki's to palm leaves blowing in the wind, the glows are holymonkeys
- change bananna 'take damage' graphics, those are holymonkey's too
- see if i can restore the last scrolling layer of bushes that i accidentally messed up when i was figuring out transparency

again i want this to be the best it can be.
- Eck

almost done with the first one.

4-5 hours work so far, all i have left to do is
1- replace the glowing thing with palm leaves blowing in the wind
2- replace the damage indication on the bananas
3- see if i can restore the layer i had underneath the palms in the front, that had bushes scrolling by, but got ruined when i tried to add transparency to it.

General Discussion / transparent PNG's
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:32:53 pm »
Im working on skinning a demo (the one in the challenges forum), and the graphics im editing over are in .png format.
since i do most of my pixel pushing in ms paint (d'oh), I don't really have the know-how about creating transparent PNG's.

My question is this: is there a simple program (such as giffy) that handles transparency in .png's?  if not, what is my best bet for creating them?

1: im almost finished with the first demo.  is the hundred dollar prize still available?
2: id also be interested in collaborating with someone on the platformer, anyone interested?
