...since you posted, can I have some critique? It pisses me off when people come into my threads and just ask totally unrelated questions...

Was that really necessary?

oh, the irony  :-X

the problem with the lighting is that you seem to have just applied your highlights randomly.  the lightest tone on the leg farthest from us (the viewers) is random, and doesnt really match up with anything else.  the lightest shade on the bottom part of her shirt has the same issue.
also, whats going on with the rest of the piece? and whats with the pokemon looking thing, and the reference?

any news?
also, im starting on the platformer

Shadow looks good!

On the more recent version, his tentacle looks like its just chillin there, and not really doing anything.  perhaps give him something to hold? (coffee? lol)
also, the tentacle coming out of the door in the background looks out of perspective.

well, for starts, a foot needs to be off the ground every other frame if youve only got three different frames to work with (two extremes and a tween). then try and relay head movement, body rotation, and arm swinging

quick 2 min edit;
took away like 3 or 4 colors, re-structured the face, etc.

excuse me if im wrong, but frankly, this  looks like at least the palette was stolen directly from the reference.

Perhaps give our space pirate a shadow. I think it will really help unify the lighting, and tie him into his less saturated background.
